2008 Charity Followup

Hi, and welcome to the 2008 edition of the Anthrocon Charity Auction Followup! Smiling

First, the bad news: The Charity Auction had the lowest return this year since 1999, we're sorry. There were issues, we know - some we could've fixed, others out of our hands. We are working to change for 2009. We have plans - BIG plans - that should turn things around on many levels. Stay tuned!

And now the good news: We raised a total of $3,982 for Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue, our charity this year! They also benefited from donations at their Dealers' Room table to the tune of $1,102! Kage & 2's charity benefit performance raised $3,040! Dr. Gerbasi's survey team donated $130! Anthrocon provided a matching (sorta) donation of $5,000!

Bike Race Detour Information for Sunday

On Sunday, June 29, Pittsburgh will be hosting the 2008 Tour of Pennsylvania Bike Race. This will lead to major street closures between 3:30 PM and 8:30 PM that day.

The race course will take place several blocks away from the Convention Center and will affect the Omni and Doubletree Hotels during those hours. The Omni has thoughtfully provided a note that explains how to get around the street closures. We are making that note available here in Word format and in PDF format.

Only those traveling on Sunday will be affected, and only between the hours of 3:30 PM and 8:30 PM.

Anthrocon 2008's featured performers

Don't miss Anthrocon 2008's featured performers!
Anthrocon was hoping to welcome TOM SMITH. Unfortunately, while rescuing three stunningly beautiful and very grateful blonde co-eds from an invasion by evil aliens, Tom suffered an injury. He is currently recuperating from his heroic wounds and hopes to join us in 2009.

Anthrocon Masquerade Rules & Regulations (2008 v10.0)

  • The Masquerade is a Variety Show-style event where costumers can show off their costuming performance and visual media skills for the convention attendees. This is not a competition; our Masquerade is not a judged event, and there are no awards or prizes.
  • In all performances, at least one participant must have a costume. For this event, "costume" is defined as wearing a significantly anthropomorphic disguise.
