We are pleased to announce that Uber has offered us a special deal for Anthrocon 2014!
New users to Uber can use the promo code FURRY to get $20 off their first ride!
Q: "What us Uber?"
Q: "Is Uber fursuit-friendly?"
Q: "Can I use Uber to get back to my hotel room at 2 AM when the dances close?"
Got questions that aren't answered here? Drop by our Uber travel page or leave a comment on this post!
We'll see you at the con in 2 weeks!
Now that pre-registration for Anthrocon 2014 is closed, I thought I'd put together some graphs of our registration data.
As expected, there is always a big rush in the final week of pre-registration, especially on the final day itself. Here's what that looks like:
Seems like a pretty big spike in early June, right? Well, the spike becomes a lot smaller when both pre-registration and on-site registrations are plotted on the same graph.
Here's the same graph, but with Anthrocon 2013 registration data:
Pre-registration for Anthrocon 2014 will end at 11:59 PM this Friday (and that's Eastern Daylight Time)! You have only two days left to get your registration in. Why's that so important?
If you've been wanting to upgrade to Supersponsor, now is the time! We can only offer the Guest of Honor luncheon to pre-registered supersponsors, so if you want wonderful noms in excellent company, you need to start upgrading now!
We are taking a cue from some of the larger fan conventions out there and implementing a voucher system for autographs from our honored guests. There are two reasons for this:
1) We want to dissuade the fellow who shows up in the line with a box of forty DVD's to be signed.
In your convention bag this year there will be two vouchers, the first good for one autograph (and/or photo) with Mr. Cummings, and the second good for one autograph (and/or photo) with Mr. Tockar. You will need to have this voucher with you in order to get an autograph! If you do not have a voucher, our guests have the option of charging for the autograph. We told them that in this instance, they can charge whatever they want. Lee got a bit of a twinkle in his eye when we said that.
A lot of folks have a habit of tossing their convention bag into the hotel room and running off. Please be sure to bring the vouchers along with you if you want to get an autograph from our guests! There will not be any extra vouchers available at Registration (or anywhere else). And remember, for the ergonomic health of our guests, we must limit any autographs to a single item.
On behalf of our guests, thank you for our understanding!
We are pleased to announce that the Programming Schedule for Anthrocon 2014 has been finalized!
We will provide you with copies of this information in a handy pocket-sized booklet when you register and/or pick up your badge at the convention; however, we like to provide this information to you in advance so that you can see what events are being offered and that you may begin planning your own convention itinerary.
Be aware that this schedule is subject to change due to availability of panelists and other circumstances outside of our control. Remember, "The best laid plans of mice and men only prove that the men should have left the planning to the mice," or something like that. We are working on preparing big poster-sized versions of the schedule that we will post at strategic locations around the convention and which we will keep updated with any last-minute changes. You may also refer to the monitors at the Westin for any changes, news, or updates as they are received. Important updates will also be posted on our Twitter Feed (@Anthrocon).
Downloading the Schedule
We are pleased to offer the schedule online both via Scribd and a direct download:

Due to popular demand, both from our attendees and from the local businesses, we have made another run of the "Rocking Pittsburgh" shirt that debuted last year, with the artwork of the inimitable Tani da Real. This shirt was commissioned on behalf of the city itself, meaning that Pittsburgh is the one who sells the shirt, not us! Thus, it is not available from the Anthrocon convention store, and can only be purchased from the local businesses that carry it.
So where do you find it? Here are the merchants who are stocking it this year:
PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: Hudson News in Concourse A and Concourse C, and the CNN Store in Concourse D.
DOWNTOWN ("dahntahn"): Westin Convention Center Hotel gift shop, 1000 Penn Ave; Courtyard by Marriott gift shop, 945 Penn Ave.; Hampton Inn gift shop, 1247 Smallman St; Marriot City Center gift shop, 112 Washington Place; Downtown Pittsburgh Welcome Center, 120 Fifth Ave.
If you live in Pittsburgh or intend to get there early, you've got a special surprise coming: the shirts are available starting now! This was at the request of the vendors and we were happy to oblige. We are hoping that they ordered enough to keep them going through the convention and we'll do our best to keep them stocked, but we can't guarantee how many will be available for sale this year.
As you may have heard, Anthrocon's selected charity this year is The National Aviary, the nation's only independent indoor nonprofit zoo dedicated to birds. While cash donations made at the convention are great, the majority of funds are raised via donations of artwork and merchandise to our Charity Auction and Charity Raffle. We're looking for popular items and unique craftwork that will make people say, "I want that!"
While we must distribute items between the Raffle and Auction based on available space, time, and perceived and past value, here are some examples of donations that went big in past years...
