Charity Auction/Raffle Donations Needed!

As you may have heard, Anthrocon's selected charity this year is The Western PA Humane Society, which provides comprehensive, compassionate and humane services to enhance the lives of companion animals for families and the community; and educates to prevent cruelty to all animals in the region. While cash donations made at the convention are great, the plurality of funds are raised via donations of artwork and merchandise to our Charity Auction and Raffle. We're looking for popular items and unique craftwork that will make people say, "I want that!"

While we must distribute items between the Raffle and Auction based on available space, time, and perceived and past value, here are some examples of donations that went big in past years...

Great examples for the raffle: Crafts based on hot trends ("Toothless" Build-A-Bear plus - $381); Popular media (Sherlock Hound DVD set - $147); Art bought at prior convention art shows ("Wrath" art by Terrie Smith - $83); Giant, brand new plush of popular animals or characters (Border collie plush - $129); Merchandise based on popular fiction (Dr. Who's sonic screwdriver - $158)

Great examples for the auction: Fursuit costumes and commissions (Griffon fursuit head - $460); Rare convention memorabilia (Full set of all AC t-shirts since 1997 - $200); Professional sculpture (Softsculp poseable gryphon - $350); Unique opportunities (A speaking part in audio version of Diane Duane's "The Last Meow" - $500); Dorsai fursuit tags (Tag #1000 - $1600)

If you have an item you believe would be appropriate and would like to donate, please contact charity(at)!

Anthrocon 2015 DJ Lineup!

Hey, everyone! It’s that time of year again. First, and I know I say this every year, this is a really tough decision. Every year, I get more awesome demos and more awesome DJs appear all over the place, adding to the already really tough competition for the total of 12 hours of spots I have to put people in. I’m lucky to be absolutely spoiled for choice, but it also means that I have way, way too many tough decisions to make, and can never get all the people on stage that I want. I’ve had to leave off a lot of names I really, really want on stage, but I’m also happy to say that I’m getting more fresh faces on stage this year than I have in a while! Nearly half of these DJs are newcomers to the AC stage, and I’m really excited to have them out to play for us. So, with no further ado, here’s the lineup for this year’s dances!

9p DJ Rory
10p Takum
11p Ra1nmaker
12a BigBlueFox

10p Raven
11p protocollie
12a Oddy
1a Midekai

11p DJ Dragonboy
12a Rob Gasser
1a DJ Genki

To everyone who didn’t get selected, thank you so much for auditioning. I don’t really have time to give individual feedback on all the mixes, but don’t get discouraged and feel free to submit again next year. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out here or at .

Proposal: Taking the fursuit parade outside. Opinions wanted!

For a long time we have been mulling over the idea of taking the fursuit parade outside so that the people of Pittsburgh could take part. We thought that considering how kind they have been to us and how much the city seems to get into the Anthrocon spirit, we ought to find a way to let them enjoy some of the magic we create.

There are many challenges, however. The parade is already considered to be quite long. There is a concern over the weather, as it may be 100 degrees F, or raining torrentially, or both at the same time.

We have come up with a proposal, but it will take a lot of planning and arrangements with the City, so we want to get people's feedback before we undertake that much work.

CURRENT PARADE ROUTE: Group photo in Hall A -> Circuit of Dealer's Room -> Escalators up to 3rd floor -> Cross skybridge -> End in the Spirit of Pittsburgh ballroom.

PROPOSED PARADE ROUTE: Group photo in Hall A -> Circuit of Dealer's Room -> Escalators down to West Lobby -> Circuit of 10th St beneath the Convention Center (cross over, up 10th St. toward downtown, cross over again, down 10th St. toward river -> enter ground floor and cross over Hall D (Zoo) -> End in Hall E.

The idea is that the building itself will provide shelter so that weather will not be an issue. The water feature, too, tends to keep the area cooler than outside.

The area beneath the convention center is a bit dark. We have, however, gotten a quote from a local lighting company who has promised that they can illuminate the entire area to full daylight brightness, using spotlights aimed at the white concrete ceiling for indirect lighting. The price is surprisingly low, and when the chairman inquired about that, he couldn't help noticing a representative from VisitPittsburgh standing in the shadows smoking a cigarette.

The Anthrocon 2015 Programming Schedule is Here

Here it is! The first look at the Anthrocon 2015 schedule! We're using Sched again this year:

Q: Will there be a printed schedule this year?

Yes, absolutely. Our Publications Pony Xydexx is hard at work at on it.

Q: What if I see an error in the schedule?

Do you see any typos, events at the wrong time, events without descriptions, or things that just don't make sense? Let us know either by sending us an email or in the comments below. We are publishing the schedule extra early this year so as to get as many eyes on it as possible before the schedule is printed.

At this point, the con is just over 2 months away. We'll see you there!
