Staff Questions (including how to get on staff)
Please come to the Convention Operations Office to volunteer. Volunteers may work as many or as few hours as they like during the convention. If you are looking for a list of volunteer opportunities before the convention starts, please take a look at our Volunteer Page and our volunteer FAQ. Staff are primarily selected from volunteers from past conventions who have shown a willingness to work, and who can work well with others. If you enjoyed volunteering and would like to be on staff the following year, please speak to the department head of the department you worked in. Board membership is reserved for those individuals who have made significant contributions to Anthrocon's success and who have year-round involvement in the ongoing planning of the convention. Admission to the Board is done by consensus of the existing Board members. It has been our experience that elections tend to be popularity contests. Unfortunately, just because an individual is popular does not mean that they can perform the job that they are elected to. For a perfect example of this, we would like to refer you to the United States Congress. Instead, we prefer to bring people onto the Board who have a solid track record of working in the organization. No, we do not rotate staff positions, unless of course a staff member wants to try something different. There's two main reasons: 1) Good volunteers are hard to find. We hate to lose them. (Want to help?) 2) If a particular position is held by a new person every year, then the same or similar mistakes will be made each year by a person who had never worked in that position before. At Anthrocon, we believe in making new mistakes every year! |
