Volunteering Questions
It's simple. Just stop by the Convention Operations Office (on the third floor of the Westin hotel, in the Crawford Room) and sign up. We'll find something for you to do -- trust us! Please do not contact us prior to the convention to offer your services except as noted above, or if you have a specific question or suggestion. In our experience, people's plans change far too often to reliably assign volunteer duties too far in advance. The short answer: we'll always have something you can do. The longer answer: we have a rather detailed list of volunteer activities found on our volunteer page. This list is updated with the latest information just a few weeks before each year's convention. However, that list only covers major tasks. There are always little things (such as running equipment or setting things up) that will need to be done, and we would be grateful for any help we receive for those jobs. Contact the Director of that function (see the Contact page) beforehand. You will still need to check in with Con Ops so that we can keep track of your hours. Again, we do not schedule volunteers ahead of time since people's plans (and our own schedule) are subject to change. We need to have the signature of a parent or legal guardian on the volunteer release if a volunteer is under 18. This is in addition to the parental permission form that will be needed for someone under 18 to get a membership badge. If you are going to be under 18 and will want to volunteer at the convention, please have your parent sign the appropriate line on our volunteer timesheet. If your parent is not attending the convention, you will need to print out a copy of the timesheet at home for them to sign that you must then bring with you. Thank you for offering! Unfortunately, insurance and liability concerns prevent us from offering official first aid services. The Convention Center will be providing a professional EMT during certain hours in that portion of our convention. Security is handled by the Dorsai Irregulars. If you would like to help out in that department, send an email to security-2009{at}anthrocon.org. We cannot take everyone who volunteers, but we are still grateful for those who step forward. That's the GOOD part! If you volunteer just ten(10) hours over the course of the convention, we'll give you a free Anthrocon T-shirt. If you volunteer fifteen(15) hours or more, we'll not only give you a T-shirt, we'll give you a free membership to next year's Anthrocon. Hours worked on Wednesday, early Thursday, late Sunday or Monday count double! |
