Anthrocon 2011 Charity Event Followup
Hi, and welcome to the 2011 edition of the Anthrocon Charity Event Followup!
Anthrocon raised a total of $11,522 for the Toonseum, our supported charity this year. Thanks very much to Joe Wos, Jim & Crystal Martin, and all the volunteers from the Toonseum who came out to participate!
Importantly, gratitude goes to all the donors who contributed artwork and merchandise to the auction and raffle, and to those who bid at the auction or bought raffle tickets. This is what makes the event go, so recognition of their philanthropy cannot be understated.
Special thanks to the Westin, Omni, and DoubleTree who each generously offered up a four-night stay during Anthrocon 2012.
I would like to give thanks to my staff who helped conduct both the charity auction and raffle. None of this could've occurred without the assistance of Mike "Mrianti" Pierce, Trevor "Mr. Mutt" Boyd, Shaun "Stahi" Daugherty, and Kevin "Dax" Dzierwinski. My great appreciation also goes to Dr. Sam "Uncle Kage" Conway for his auctioneering talents.
More thanks go to 2, the Ranting Gryphon, and again to Dr. Conway for generously contributing the proceeds of their Sunday benefit comedy show to the charity.
Some raffle items not claimed on Sunday were donated to the Toonseum for their use.

Thanks again for a great year and see you all in 2012!
We haven't told Giza yet. Maybe he won't notice.
Never anger the guy who writes the code to print the badges. For we are creative, and know other systems of counting.
Next year badge numbers will be in hexadecimal? Or just binary?
*waxes mystical*
Whether Hexadecimal, Decimal, yea, even unto Octal and Binary - all counting systems emerge from the Unity of 1!
Funny, i thought it most closely translated to "Now."
I fear the day will come soon when badge numbers have to be five digits long...
How do you define "soon"? At 10% growth (doubtful now that we're maxing out on hotel space), it'll take 8.6 years to hit 10k attendees...
I'm very glad this was responded to so well; and I heard it was one of our forum regulars who purchased it!
I understand that the forum regular referred to - whoever he or she should turn out to be - was bidding under the assumption that the entirety of the donation was going to the charity, and therefore the prize is essentially the right to have badge #1.
In which case - the forum regular will be purchasing a membership (once pre-registration opens for AC 2012) at his (or her) customary membership level.
...And if that assumption is incorrect - that the prize includes a membership, as well as the right to hold badge #1 - then he (or she) shall be sending in a cheque for the customary amount anyway, as a donation to AnthroCon - and with the admonition that the board do some Good with it.
My Enthusiam in this case is that the $600 was raised for charity. Indeed, all funds are going completely there.
Indeed membership to Anthrocon is included though, and since the bidding exceeded $500, it's a Supersponsor-level membership.

All winning bids were paid at the auction itself, directly to the charity representatives. If the winning bid was $600, $600 was paid to the charity representatives right there and then. The membership and level for 2012 is free. The cost was how much a bidder was willing to donate to the charity to be the recipient of it.
Perhaps.... If we can be assured there will be signifcant interest.
Anyone happen to have a picture of Shiro's print book on display? They used a picture I commissioned for display, but the book was gone by the time I found out. Would love to have proof because the concept amuses me.
I believe it was actually just a bundle of loose prints that Shiro delivered in a large brown envelope or two. That being the case, I'm not sure anyone would've been allowed to snap a photo because of copyright considerations.
I figured, but there's no harm in asking. :>
