Is there a Walmart type store anywhere near the convention center?

I originally thought of this because i don't like being without my swiss army knife (for utilitarian purposes, mind you) but i know i can't bring mine on the plane (duh!), but also thought it'd be a good thing to know in case one forgets something at hom

Canadian flights allow people to carry pocketknives in their checked luggage. Sadly, I forget what the American regulations are, but might be worth researching.

Try hitting up Google Maps. Once you find the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, search for nearby “department stores.”

Cheers.

Just keep in mind the rules of conduct at AC, which includes a ban on any sharp edge more than 4" in length (if I recall correctly).

...and I do! Ha! Here's some direct links for reference.

And a few direct quotes...

"No weapons or any item that can be easily mistaken for one may be carried..."

"An exception will be made for folding pocket knives such as Swiss Army knives provided they contain no double-edged blades and no blade longer than four inches..."

According to the TSA, knives may not be carried on board planes but may be placed in checked luggage.

That has been my experience as well--i carry a swiss army knife virtually all the time, and i've always checked it with no problems.

The trick to remember: if you forget to put it into a checked bag the first time, you're kinda screwed. They won't have any way for you to mail it home (although if you have a self addressed padded envelope in your bag, they may know where the nearest mailbox is), and they don't always allow you to check your carry-on with the knife in it, and the signs to remind you about all of this come after you've checked your bag.

So do yourself a favor and put it in your luggage the night before, so you don't have to remember. And then just accept that you'll have to check that bag, even if you don't usually.
