After several long years of work and patience, we are finally able to bring to you The Anthrocon 2013 Charity Poker Tournament!  This No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em tournament will be held on Friday, 5 July, starting at 3:00pm in the Meeting Room, DLCC 413-415, with all proceeds given to this year's charity, Equine Angels Rescue.  The buy-in for this inaugural tournament is $20, and re-buys are available for another $10, until the first break.

Prizes for this tournament will be forthcoming, however the list includes membership for next year's Anthrocon, as well as other assorted artist commissions and miscellaneous prizes.  Also, if you are willing to donate prizes for the Tournament, we would be most grateful!  We hope that we will be able to provide an exciting prize support package for players, but the best way to ensure that we will have bigger and better prizes in subsequent years is to donate to the featured charity, namely Equine Angels Rescue.

The main purpose of The Anthrocon 2013 CPT is not just to have fun, but also to give to a worthy cause.  The mission for this year's charity, Equine Angels Rescue, is "to provide a safe haven for abandoned, abused, unwanted, neglected or slaughter bound horses."  We want to combine our player's love of poker with the generosity that our fandom can provide by donating money to something worthwhile.  By our combined efforts, we will help EAR with their work and have fun while doing so!

If there are any questions concerning The Anthrocon 2013 CPT, please contact me, turtyl, CPT Coordinator.  The other half of our operations team is our CPT Tournament Director, Syaoran.  Thanks go out to Whitefeet for working behind the scenes to get the final approvals set.  And of course, Anthrocon and Uncle Kage for giving us the go-ahead to make the CPT a reality.

Hope to see everyone at The Anthrocon 2013 Charity Poker Tournament!  Shuffle Up & Deal!

Update: Click Here for the blind structure for the Tournament.

Update 2: Location of the ACPT will likely be in DLCC 413-415.  Not confirmed, but likely at this point. Location is now confirmed.

Update 4: Click Here for a list of artists donating to the ACPT and other prize support details.

I've missed every charity poker game since my first trip to FCN because there were other good stuff going on. Sad

I hope I can make this one.

We're still trying to get logistics in order from Programming.  We expect to be put in a room in the DLCC, possibly 4th floor but there's no confirmation as yet.  As soon as we get more information I'll post something and edit the announcement.

Poker tournament? Uggg I only play against a geek, two freelance cops, a body guard jock, a robot missing a few programs, a weak mini luchador, a cursed 70s male and a heavy Russia mercenary. I don’t think I could handle the massive different amount of people at AC. Fine I’ll try and enter for the good of the cause.

We better not have a robot dealing the cards. Just saying...

A bit of an update on the ACPT.  It looks as though we'll be put into the DLCC, rooms 413-415.  This may change, but currently that's where we're going to be located.

Deal me in. That is if you don't mind an amateur sitting in on your tournament. The only Poker I play is with the same set of people as Sandrock. Fortunately, that means I'm quite good at spotting tells on a rabbit or dog. Where/when will you be signing people up for the tournament?

Amateurs are fine!  We welcome anyone wanting to play; after all, it's for a good cause! Smiling

Signups for the tournament start at 1:00pm on Friday right after opening ceremonies, in room 413-415 of the DLCC.  That is, provided that DLCC 413-415 is the final location of the ACPT.  We will have a representative of the charity on-hand to accept registrations.  We will also be taking late registration through the first break, so registration will technically last from 1:00pm - 4:00pm.  Rebuys will also be taken through the first break, details of which will be discussed later.

The safe bet, unfortunately, would probably be no, unfortunately.  You have to abide by PA law.  But, if staff says yes, then I'm wrong.

i can see what you are saying, but its not really gambling because you are giving money to charity and that gives you access to the game, the chips have no money value and youre not winning money either. but what the staff say goes and i will accept it. just putting a thought out there that could go around that 21 rule. but again what the staff say goes and i will accept it. the reason i put this out is because i love texas hold'em!!!

I understand what you mean, but it is still viewed as gambling because even though money is going to charity, there is some sort of prize involved.

Like I said, if the staff allowes it, then all of what I'm saying is for naught.  I'm just going by what I know.

Actually, this isn't gambling...technically.  The ACPT is a charity event, and any money that is given to the event for use of entry or rebuy is considered a donation.  Also, all prizes that are offered at the ACPT do not have a monetary value and cannot be traded, transferred, or sold to other attendees.  So as this event is not technically gambling, there isn't an age requirement.

If I may direct your attention to the second sentence of the original post: "This No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em Tournament will be held on Friday, 5 July, starting at 3:00pm..." The date's been set for a while now; we were just up in the air on a location. But I think we will be in DLCC 413-415.

As for the main schedule from Programming, that's in it's final stages so far as I know.  I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't posted for general consumption within the next week or two.

I'm interested in this. However I noticed in the mobile programming guide (m.anthrocon.org) lists the time as being from 1pm-6pm,while the other guides seem to say 3pm-8pm. Is there something I'm missing?

Hmm, I'm looking at the mobile schedule right now, and it looks to be correct.  The ACPT is still at 3:00pm and will be in the Meeting Room, which is DLCC 413-415.  Can you tell me where in the schedule it's incorrect?

I am looking at the mobile schedule on m.anthrocon.org and on Friday under 1:00 it is showing the ACPT running from 1:00-6:00pm.  The pocket program show it running from 3:00 - 8:00pm.

Hmm.  I've been looking at MyConbook (otherwise known as what they're running on http://m.anthrocon.org/) for the past day, and it shows 3:00 - 8:00p, which is the correct time.  I've checked this on my smartphone and my web browser.  In fact, I've checked MyConbook on Firefox, IE, and Chrome.  So I don't understand where it's coming up with 1:00 - 6:00p.  Can either of you private message me what you did to come up with 1:00 - 6:00?

I'll have to bring this up with some of the other people in Programming.  But rest assured, the time, day, and location in the original post is correct, Friday at 3:00p in DLCC 413-415.

That is wierd that is shows up correctly for you.  I am using firefox and am seeing it at 1:00pm.  To get there I clck on the m.anthrocon link, click on schedule, click on friday and it brings me to this page: http://m.anthrocon.org/ac2013/#schedule-list?date=2013-07-05 .  If I scoll down to the 1:00 time frame and there it is showing from 1-6.  Even if I filter the data for the poker tournament it still shows up as being at 1:00.

I think I just figured out what it is doing now.  I checked out a couple of other panels that are listed and they are all showing off by 2 hours.  It looks like the website is adjusting for time zones.  Since I am in the mountain time zone it is showing what time the panels are starting in mountain time instead of eastern time.

This is the exact same place I am having the problem, on m.anthrocon.org.

And your explanation actually makes sense as I am in Mountain Time as well. Hooray for time zones! Its like....time travel....not really xD.

We have an update on the prize support for the ACPT. In addition to prizes that include Sponsor and Attending level memberships to next year's Anthrocon as well as some Anthrocon swag, we have several artists that are donating their time and skills. We are still trying to locate more prizes, so this list is not Finished yet! Listed below are those artists and links to their FA pages:

Shinigami Girl

Lazzy Dragon

Princess Rei

J3t

Kittrel

Moonmochi

Please recognize these artist's generosity by entering the ACPT!  Even if you decide not to enter, please visit their sites anyways; they're helping a good cause and deserve your support!

Update: We have another addition to the prize support!  Con*Tact Caffeine will provide us with a box of swag containing all of their aromatic goodness!
