Did the contract with the Wyndham indeed specify that the hotel would exist? I've been collecting anecdotes of unusual contract clauses and the stories behind them.

In short, yes. It didn't use those words, but it did specify that if the hotel was not available, the Wyndham's parent corporation would be responsible for finding us an equivalent venue within a reasonable distance.
