Anthrocon Hotel ShuttleWe had an unexpected request from some local merchants for an Anthrocon-related shirt that they could sell in their stores to both Furries and non-Furries.  They wanted something more generic than our annual shirt which is always year-specific, and something that would incorporate both Anthrocon and images of Pittsburgh.  After poring over several possible designs, we came up with the image that you see to the right, with artwork courtesy of Tani da Real.

We're calling it the "City Shirt" and it will be for sale starting on or about July 1 at various locations in the city.  Please note that it will not be for sale at Anthrocon itself!  It would simply not do to make up a shirt for local stores to sell and then turn around and compete with them.  No, this shirt is 100% Pittsburgh!

They are going to be offered at the following locations:

  • Pittsburgh International Airport:  Hudson News in Concourses A and C; CNN in Concourse D.
  • Westin Convention Center Hotel gift shop.
  • Courtyard by Marriott gift shop.
  • Omni William Penn gift shop.
  • Doubletree Downtown Pittsburgh gift shop.
  • Hampton Inn and Suites gift shop.

Once again, Anthrocon is not selling these shirts onsite.  They can only be purchased at the locations listed above.  Supplies are limited, and we'll do our best to keep our vendors stocked, but we can make no guarantees. Anthrocon has become a beloved Pittsburgh institution and we expect there to be just as much demand from the folks downtown as there will be from our attendees!

I'll have to buy one of these.

Also, the animal on the design appears to be feline.  Obviously, the people of Pittsburgh (and Tani) have good tastes. Cool

Personal opinion is that it would have been 10x better as a penguin, but that particular mascot seems to have acquired a job with one of the local sports teams... Cats are good, too, though. Smiling

It's 'overly excited random keyboard typing', used to convey excitement. The convention of that is lots of letters, mostly home row, usually begins with an A. I achieved this by randomly hitting keybaord keys, for the proper effect.

We deliberately don't have a mascot, to avoid The Drama. If we made it a wolf, the cats would complain. If we made it a cat, the wolves would complain. If we made it a fox, everyone would complain.

So the obvious solution should be to make the mascot a coyote.  Everyone likes coyotes.

The individual shops may set their own prices; we have no particular MSRP for the shirts, I believe.

As for sizing, I admitted do not know; I would presume that the merchants will order a range of shirts for the average Pittsburghian, which would be about the size range of the average furry, I should think.

Pawsome to see the community embrace us like this. Great design. Is AC making the shirts or just providing the design for the local merchants to use? The later would produce more variety. Any chance of seeing that design on a backpack?

Well, as if the extra hotel accomidations and shuttles this year, combined with all the venue supports in the past few years were not enough, this just shows it. Anthrocon is beginning to own the city.

How long before the honourary city-name change for the duration of the con?  Sticking out tongue

While I understand that the merchants would like something which appeals to both Furry Fan and Pittsburgh Resident alike, I DO hope that someone may have clued in the shirt manufacturers about "Fannish Sizes"?  It must be said, we don't exactly fit the standard Bell Curve for size distribution.

For that matter, what has been AthroCon's experience when ordering the convention T-Shirt; have the stock orders pushed the curve more to the largish sizes?

A Black and Yellow cat...yeah, that could work.  I'll try to get one when inbound at the airport; with so many early arrivals, they might run out at the Omni gift shop by the time I get in on July 4th.

Will local merchants be selling this shirt in addition to gift shops? Or do you happen to know if they will continue to produce their own particular shirt related to their establishment?

If you're talking about the restaurants such as Fernando's or Penn City Grille that make con-themed T-shirts, they will likely be producing their own, still. We have a standing license agreement with them.
