It's a small box three quarters of the way down the preferences dialog. I missed it the first time I was looking.

The sidebar on the left has a 'my account' link. If you click that, you should see your info on it, as well as some tabs. If you click on the one that saus 'edit', you'll be taken to a page where you can edit all your info and stuff. Just under the space to enter a signature, there's a box in a section titled 'Contact Settings'. Check to see whether or not that's checked. If you want your contact information to be private, the box should not be checked.
If it isn't checked already, then, well.. your guess is as good as mine ^^;

you're referign to:

Contact settings
Personal contact form
Allow other users to contact you by e-mail via your personal contact form. Note that your e-mail address is not made public and that privileged users such as site administrators are able to contact you even if you choose not to enable this feature.

Thats actually to determine IF you can be contacted period, not if your info is anonomous. Maybe by "not made public" they mean to non registered members

Precisely. You need to be logged in to send someone a message, to prevent abuse.

And yes, I think the wording from that checkbox is misleading. Maybe I should hack on the code a little. Smiling

Hmm.. maybe I misunderstood. I was going by the part that said "Note your email address is not made public and that priveleged users such as site administrators are able to contact you even if you choose not to enable this feature" To me, that sounded like what you were looking for, but I guess I misunderstood.

Antimon's picture

that is what we are discussing yes.

I want to be contacted but i was under the asumption by contacting someone, my email would not be displayed when doing so, i misunderstood.

I'm personally not worried, my email can be seen by others, i like getting contacted just didn't think through what it was actually saying or meaning

> also i thought the email form was supsoed to keep email addresses

Nope, it's not supposed to. When you fill that out, the server sends an email to the account holder.

Drupal does have a module called Privatemsg that I'm going to look into installing later on.

might want to reword the checkbox to somthing along the order of "your email is still kept private to non forum memebers, however if you email someone your address will be viewable by the person you mesage"

Then again, maybe not, because the fact that the email is viewable is not a function of that box, but rather a function of being emailed, and it's not your privacy options in play but those of the person messaging you. so yeah nevermind
