Hiyo! Didn't want to jump way ahead of things, but I suppose now's as good a time as any to ask a question. I'm kinda curious with the emphasis we've put on getting such really wonderful guests every year, have we had or might we try to get in future, any of the cast/crew from any of Jim Henson's shows over the years? After a couple of weeks of watching previous episodes of Fraggle Rock, The Muppet Show, as well as movies like The Dark Crystal and such, I just sorta was surprised because I don't remember any of the minds behind some of these wonderful shows many of us have grown up with ever being in on AC. Especially as they'd pretty much be old hands in the costuming aspect, as well as voicing, acting, etc... If someone can refute me and tell me if we HAVE had some of these wonderful actors, artisans, or voice talents on board over the years, I'd appreciate it. As I've only really been attending since '02, I may have missed a bit. If not, definitely something for the con's board to chew on a bit, maybe see if any of Jim Henson Studios is interested in coming out over the next few years! |

We should try to have some of the Canadian furs kidnap Paul Dobson. He's done quite a number of voices, inclusing Naraku and Miyoga the Flea from Inuyasha. Heh, a flea. He'd get along pretty well with Kagemushi since both are species of pests we can't seem to get rid of! Hee hee hee!

permalinkI recently watched both The Ewok Adventure films, and got to wondering... wouldn't it kick major booty to have Warwick Davis (i.e. the little guy who did Wicket) as a GoH?
I mean, this guy was fursuiting before fursuiting was cool, man! And already he's done a few cons as a result of playing Filius Flitwick in the Harry Potter films.

Everyone responding to this thread would do well to read the FAQ about the Guests of Honor (which, admittedly, was posted after this thread was started).

Just as heads up to folks, the question of Guests of Honor at future conventions is now covered in our FAQ: http://www.anthrocon.org/faq/goh.

You mean, like, Warw!ck Dav!s googles his name, finds my post here, and says, "Hey, looks like I'm the Guest of Honor at Anthrocon 2008! Jeeves, do I have that in my schedule? And who's this Floyd Norman fellow?"

Heh.
It's more like, we've had situations in the past where we've contacted potential GoHs and discovered that they had a scheduling contact and couldn't attend that year. The last thing we would want to do is get peoples' hopes up about a potential guest before things are finalized.

permalinkSo you guys have to remain tight-lipped. But is anyone going to confuse a goober like me, Kyraeus or Alondro with official Anthrocon staff? It seems a little odd that the policy basically says, "come on, guys, don't talk about that here; just e-mail the names to us."
But oh well. My two cents are in. (In my little fantasy, WD accepts the invite, arranges a loan of the old Wicket suit from Lucasfilm, and reprises the character in the Masquerade. Hey, a skunk can dream...)

Yes. It's happened before.
Well, not with you guys specifically, but we've had people see something, jump to conclusions, talk/post about it elsewhere, and the next thing you know there are rumors flying around that we have to spend time/energy dealing with.

What Giza said.
There's not much that is more painful for me than to get an excited email from someone saying, "I heard from someone who heard from someone that you guys want me to be a guest at Anthrocon next year!" and have to say, "well....um....it's not that we don't WANT you, but..."

permalinkEep,
Sorry guys. Actually, I didn't see anything pertaining to GoH choices before this, and wasn't quite sure where I could bring up the idea. Mostly I'd just wanted to suggest those in particular, as I'd never heard anyone suggest them before.
On a good note, glad it got taken care of, and there's now a clearly marked discussion so people KNOW what the score is as far as GoH choices go!
Thanks for the answers, all!

Erf, rumors can get started so easily based on nothing. I wonder if a rumor would get going that Abraham Lincoln was going to be GoH next year... or maybe God.
*headline on Yahoo tomorrow* The Lord will be visiting Pittsburg, PA the end of next June for an annual furry convention!

God is present every Anthrocon. We consider him a SuperSponsor, and giving him honored status isn't just for then.
On the sillier side, I have no idea what badge number we'd issue him.

permalinkBadge Zero, of course.
Some cultures consider zero to be actually not a number, but a lack of a true number. And what number could you place on a god?

I'm leaning towards pi or e--definitely a transcendent number.
