for me it is, but some like it for the flexibility and the fact that it stretches and is less likely to rip so when you compete in the fur games you don't have to worry about taking it off just to compete^^ so yeah I guess it is and in some cases it isn't it's all how you look at it^^

permalinkI hate to barge in on your conversation, but have you concidered a Neoprene surfers, or divers suit? Neoprene is different from latex in that it's temperture permiable along with being breathable. In other words, you wont overheat, and there wont be any chaffing. Thought i'd try to help...

In the CSI episode (at least what I watched of it), the lining was definately described as "latex". You'd think detectives would know the difference between latex and neoprene off the bat.

permalinkYou would think that, but sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference. because in some cases the neoprene suit can have a covering that appears to be latex untill further inspection...

Besides, while Detectives would almost certainly know the difference, mainstream screenwriters probably don't. They're not required to be scientifically accurate, after all.

Just thinking about how much my hands sweat when I wear latex gloves makes me shudder at the mere thought of a latex body suit covered in fur

that and how would you keep the suit from sticking to your body and giving you a bad rash I don't think I wanna walk around in a suit with a bottle of baby powder in my back pocket that would be just plain wrong and humiliating-.-

What I gather, then, is latex IS sometimes used?

permalinkI do not see any advantage with having a latex lining or undergarment. Fursuits get hot, latex will hold more heat. This is a bad recipe.
Someone might make a suit that is partially furry and partially latex. I have never seen one. I have seen people make spandex costumes with furry accents.

The only time I can recall seeing a fursuit with a latex lining was the now infamous (at least among fur's) episode of csi

...that would be why I asked. They mentioned the latex lining, and it simply made NO sense.

Of course it made no sense. CSI is a work of fiction, not a documentary. Each episode has many inaccuracies for the sake of entertainment and storytelling. In order to get their ridiculous plot to work, they needed to have a fursuit with a latex lining. I don't know of any fursuit builders who make theirs that way.
