Planning First Con! (and some quicky questions)
Hey everyone ^^ its August 2007 and I'm already going nuts about Anthrocon 2008! I really want to go! Really really! Anyway, I have some quicky questions, and would like to chat with peeps who went to a con before
1. I know there are artists who are also great musicians, I was wondering if and where people sell their music
2. And i want to know, from people who went to the con before, what was the best part of it?
thanks ^O^
Hello Mr. Moogle!
Since no one else seems to have taken #1, I might say that music has a somewhat limited presence in the furry fandom. There is filking, which has a long and respected history in furry (and sci-fi in general), but I imagine your work is more in the vein of DJ mixes.
While there certainly were folks selling the occasional CD or two in the Dealer's Den, it was definitely an adjunct to the artwork and other merchandise. And the reason for that, I think, is that outside of filking, music and furry are a little difficult to connect. (After all, exactly how would "furry music" differ from music in general, if not for the lyrics?) No doubt there are many musically-inclined furries, but most of them are probably not expecting to find new material at a furry con.
That's just my view, of course. If anyone would like to prove me wrong, please do.

That has seemed to be the predominant apporach, from what i can recall. The one exception that sticks in my mind was a leopard singer i met many years ago, at the '01 AC. He entered artists alley to sell a CD of original furry-themed music he'd written and recorded, and later went on to help us write and perform a blues tune for our beloved chairman.
I don't know that i've seen him or any artists like him since, though.

2: Being able to hang out with friends and meet lots of new and interesting people from all over the world.
Sorry Uncle Kage, Storytime came in at 2nd place
