If you're 15, you'll either need a parent present or a signed and notarized form.
As for driving in, remember to set aside money for parking your car; I recommend getting a good USA road atlas AND a state map of Pennsylvania. (The latter should be available at tourist information stops.) Mapquest is good, but having an atlas in case plans need to be altered is vital.

permalinkTourist info shops are sometimes hard to come by. Stop by a CVS. They're everywhere and most that I've seen carry state and city road maps. Of course, the latter being the city the business was residing in, but nonetheless...

by next con I will have a full fledged drivers license cause I'll be 16 and will have a cooler full of water food and other misc. items (if I can find it) and we always carry an atlas with us mind you it's old and not all of the rules and regulations of each state are current we carry it in the car and it never leaves the car

First of all, at 16 you're NOT ready for a country-traversing trip, period. Especially one that is more than 12 hours. I know you think otherwise, cause I sure as hell did when I was 16. Trust me, you're not.
Here in MA, we weren't allowed to drive out of the state until we'd had our license for a year, so make sure to check that fine print.
My suggestion? Book a flight now. It's cheaper for one thing and your parents will be much more willing to let you go.

looked it up at mapquest and it was 12 hrs and 3mins from this household (if I follow the speed limit)*blushes* yes I do speed quite alot I drove from here to Denver colorado TYVM and I do take heed to the fine print, but I don't think I would wanna walk all over town I would rather drive the car. I do have quite alot of driving exp. what do you expect I drive all over the county I live 30 miles from school and use my S10 to get there and I'm a farm hand so I have plenty of exp.

Plane tickets are probably cheaper than a speeding ticket. Please, don't break any laws just to attend our convention.
Seriously, there are many dining establishments in Pittsburgh that are within walking distance. If you were to drive, chances are that your car will sit in the garage at The Westin the entire time.

Not to mention, if you plan on going anywhere outside of immediate walking distance, there are city buses that are rather cheap.

Not to mention the fact that you may have to take into account paying for parking every where you go. I'm not sure how it is in pittburgh but in detroit you have to pay for parking either in garages or at parking meter's so that's just more money you don't need to waste.

I would also like to say that I don't think you're experienced enough to make a drive of that length safely.
I just ran mapquest for Russell, KS to Pittsburgh, PA and it stated 16 hours, 44 minutes. My son, who is several years older than you, has totaled two cars by overestimating how far he could drive. You might want to see if there is somebody you could share a ride with, possibly in Kansas City or St. Louis.
Navigation won't be much of a problem. Over ninety five percent of your travel will be on Interstate 70.

XD how foolish do you think I am... I was planing on leaving 3-4 days early so that when I get tired of driving I have time to waste sleeping in a hotel on the way and can get there early to explore first hand and I have a possible person joining me female (I think fox) found her on pounced but she still hasn't answered her Email from me she calls herself Butterscotch or Butters for short ^^

hrm... wow that makes a good point thanks, but I was thinking of going with Tait-Fox if he could catch a gray hound to Kansas... thought it would save us two flight tickets plus they have restrictions on what you can carry with you *hates the thought of leaving something at home just cause they won't allow it* but I guess it would be cheaper... man I just hate being shot down... I still wanna consider traveling by car as an option though...(just in case^^)

One of the less-well known secrets to enjoying a convention, or any sort of get-away-from-it-all vacation or holiday is, travel light. Just pack a bag with 4 day's worth of clothes, toiletries, maybe a light jacket, earplugs for sleeping in a room full of snorers, and maybe a canvas book-bag, all folded up, to carry any purchase you might make - options would be a cheap camera and a bare-bones celtel, and that's it!
There is plenty to see and do at the convention, so most of the modern electronic toys can be dispensed with. Unless you plan to perform and are bringing a fursuit, or are going collecting artist's sketches in a sketchbook, don't encumber yourself with a bunch of stuff that could get broken, lost, or stolen; if you need some sort of amusement, spend time in conversation with folks, or going to panels about subjects novel to you.
...And as has been advised in another thread on another topic - leave the machete at home. While the theme of the convention is "It's a Jungle Out There", trust me, you won't find any practical need for it.

Being in Northeast Kansas myself, I know there is multiple stations in the state, one to the south of me in Junction City.
The prices are pretty decent (especially if you buy them early and round-trip), and then you don't have to worry about running out of gas, getting lost, or even figuring out a driving schedule.

*smirks* I guess you don't know me very well I love a challenge so long as it doesn't end up eating me alive or killing me >.< (round two with the Venus fly trap) I love packing heavy and I guess you haven't seen mah coat... I pack it with senseless things to bring more grief (weight) upon mah body... so I can run faster without it... and I really want leg weights...
(at school they call me inspector gadget^^)
(for all the junk I pack in it)

off topic I know but...no one answered the other post on another forum (so far as I know) just curious are collars for just female furs or are they for males as well just wondering cause I don't wanna spend $40-$50 on a collar I would just otherwise be embarrassed about... *blushes* naive I know, but it's better than being foolish and embarrassed/laughed at

Set your mind at ease; i've never heard or seen any sign that collars are gender-specific. I think the prevailing attitude is "collars are for furs who want collars."
I believe there are some official restrictions on leash usage at AC, but that's different, and it's not gender specific.

I used to wear a collar back in the days of my youth. (Now I wear a shirt and tie
)
Use of leashes are restricted, unfortunately, due to problems we had in years past. Sorry!

One might argue that the tie is the professional's version of the collar.
