A furry from deviantART who's planning to be at Anthrocon in 2008!

Greetings, furries! I am Gushousekai195! Some of you, if you have seen me before, may know me from deviantART and Fur Affinity. Ever since summer vacation it has been my fondest and wildest dream to attend the mighty and magnificent Anthrocon in 2008, after I've graduated high school. My mother says that I should go there because it would be a fun place for a furry like me to be (like in the anthro chats on dA) and to meet some people in person that I've only known online. When I go to Anthrocon, I'm planning on donning a fursuit. I would like to know how I can have one made. I would also like it if it were based on my fursona (you can find a picture of it, not very good anatomy though but you'll get the idea, here) I am also aware that I need to register to attend Anthrocon. Can you give me some tips on that, too? I'd appreciate it. |

Oof. Good luck with those wings :-]
Look here for a list of professional fursuit makers. Be forewarned: if you don't make it yourself, it's not cheap. Count on upwards of US$1000.

Ah hello there!
AC is definately a wonderful place to meet many people you have only known online. I have yet to run into someone unpleasant, not to mention that the con is incredibly well run with many many fun events, and WONDERFULL artwork.
I met many deviants there as well, many I did not know but knew me fairly well >.<
For registration and many helpfull tips and tricks about AC, including events and dates and what not, check the sidebar there under 'about anthrocon', 'registration' 'events' etc etc. All the information you need is placed there for the conveniance of all who wish to attend. If you have any questions after reading the information provided, never hesitate to ask ^.^
As for fursuites, there are LOADS of places to go for professional grade suites. But they are rather pricey depending on what you want done.
Sadly at the moment I can only remember Latinv Vixen (www.mixedcandy.com)
but there are many many more. If you put 'fursuite' into the search engine of Deviant art, i'm sure you will find many good suite makers.
Good luck to you and look forward to seeing you at AC next year.

I have seen the Primal Visions Design Studio website and that seems like a good place to get a decent African wild dog fursuit (my fursona is one, in case you haven't seen the picture). But, it seems like it'll cost a lot of money, seemingly more than my mom can afford
, even if they craft just the fursuit and we craft the clothing. Just an idea. It also seems daunting to craft the fursuit myself since it's my senior year of high school now and I've never crafted a fursuit before.
I haven't got a clue as to how I can come up with a thousand dollars. I'm only seventeen years old and I'm not yet ready for a job. I could put my money in a savings account, but by the time I have the money it'll probably be too late. The idea of a fundraiser comes to mind, too, but that seems a little far-fetched.
What will I do? What can I do? I can't just do house chores since I only earn six bucks an hour.

Sounds like quite a challenge.
Of course--and i'm sure you know this, but it bears repeating--you doun't have to invest in a full suit just to come to AC. You could always just work on getting some of the pieces of the suit now--head and forepaws, for instance. With the right clothing, that can work fine as a partial suit, albeit lacking a tail, which is pretty easy to construct.
Alternately, if that also feels like too much of an investment, you could always... *gasp* ...go to AC without a fursuit. Fursuiters are appreciated, and they are in many ways the celebrities of the con, but they're not the whole of it. Despite what you might think from reading this forum, i'm not sure they're even in the majority; if memory serves, i think this past year it was something like one in 10. Lots of other folks, myself included, go wearing ears and tails, or wings, or horns, or nothing animalistic at all, and still have a fantastic time. There's no need to stress if you're not able to invest in a fursuit right now. *smiles*

Well you dont need a Fursuite to enjoy the con
Out of the 2000-3000 attendee's somewhere around only 300 of them fursuite. It's a fun thing to invest in in the future, but it's really not incredibly important.
Like Des below me said, alot of people just wear ears or a tail or both. Alot like myself wear nothing.
Fursuites are fun, I have to agree ( I got a fursuite head plopped on my shoulders once and had a blast running around), but like I said, not entirely important. For now just enjoy the con and what it offers. Meet new people, browse artwork, attend The events and dances. Ac will be around for a good long time, so furstuiing is most definately not out of your future, but for now i'd just continue saving up so that when you get a decent amount saved, you can get a well made, none rushed suite that you can be proud of for years to come.

My mom told me that getting me a fursuit would be part of my high school graduation present (that includes the trip to Anthrocon). I think she'll try to do something to get around, but she told me to do some more research and find some fursuit makers that might be around our area.

Thats very nice of your mom!
Hmm Alas I'm not sure where you live. I know Mixed Candy is based in Florida I think, as for other makers *shrugs* I'm not sure, but they normally have their location on the front page of their Website.
It would be cheaper for sure if you picked the suite up yourself rather then having to fork out for shipping. I hope you manage to find a local one, or one thats not accross the country, or in another country completely *I dont think we have any here in canada, but I could be very wrong* Best of luck to you for sure! If you manage to find a good place localy, be sure to post your results for those who live in your area as well.

I know Primal Visions is in San Leandro, California (the same state I live in). But, what I want to know is if it's in the vicinity of Huntington Beach or at least Los Angeles.

They totally are. Mine hated furry stuff of any kind when I was at home--to the point of me having to hide my art collection and them taking away the first tail I had.
But my current one is even better
So nyah XD
But totally--your parents are awesome. Wish mine woulda been like that >.>

Another thing: what should I call myself when I go to Anthrocon?

Well, now, that depends. For registration, AC will ask you to give them your standard, official non-furry name (the one that would be on your driver's license, if you have one), so that they can make sure that your badge goes to you and only you.
They'll also ask you what name you want on the badge, which should be whatever you prefer ppl to call you. It can be anything, as long as it's family friendly. If you have multiple names by which ppl know you, you might consider if one of them is what you prefer to be called. If you really don't care what ppl call you, then you might think about what name ppl are most likely to recognize. If you have more than one name that you want ppl to see, you could just get one on the badge and have artists do conbadges for the others, or you could put them in with slahes in between (ie. stormy/fluffums/ben).
I, for instance, have huge numbers of names (diminutive and full) that ppl call me, and i'm not particular. However, most furries know me as dester'edra or some variant on that (dest, destie, dester...), so that's what i put on my badge.
Just don't forget to watch your spelling and capitalization and such; AC folks spell things in so many different ways, some capitalized, some in all caps, some in all lowercase, that they're very careful to spell, capitalize, space, and punctuate names exactly as they are written.
Hope that helps. *smiles*

permalinkAs an additional consideration,
I'd also recommend looking around the messageboard for a while and try not to use any name that was already in use.

ANOTHER BIG QUESTION!! WOULD MY FURSUIT, CONSIDERING THAT IT'S BASED ON MY FURSONA, BE APPROPRIATE AT THE CONVENTION?
I know the sword would be a violation, so I was thinking of replacing the scabbard with a bag to carry my stuff inside.

So long as there are no 'Naughty bits' showing or anything pornographic in nature, it's allowed. No nudity as well.
As far as I know, those are the only stipulations placed upon fursuiting. Perhaps give the FAQ a brief read through just to make sure however, but I dont think there would be aproblem.

*nodnods* The only other stipulations i can think of off the top of my head are that the fursona must include a shirt (or something that covers the same area) and shoes (or something that covers the same area). Since the vast majority of fursuits cover both, that shouldn't be an issue.
If there are other stipulations that i forgot, i'm assuming some kind staff member or security person will correct me.

I've seen some fursuiters go to Anthrocon dressed in fursuits that had no shirts or shoes.

permalinkNope. One of the "suiters" at AC'07 was a minotaur---and completely bare from neck to belt.
Granted, he had a decent physique, and a nice tan. You could consider it an unwritten stipulation, if anything, that those not appropriately endowed should not attempt such a feat....

Are you meaning to say there was no fur from his neck down to his belt?

permalinkHis torso was bare of any clothing or other covering. But as was mentioned...he had the body to do it. I saw him, and I most definitely agree. Given the nature of his avatar and his definitely appropriate body, it worked.

What I meant was that I've seen people in full-body fursuits where they didn't have a shirt put on over it and weren't wearing shoes over the feet of their fursuit.

permalinkAs naked as Bugs Bunny, in other words. Cartoon nudity is fully condoned at Anthrocon

Right-o. You've seen the picture of my fursona. Do you think I'm good to go?

I think that as long as your fursuit (or, if it's a partial, whatever you plan to wear with it) is designed to cover your torso and the bottoms of your feet, and as long as you skip the sword, you should be fine.
If you're not expecting the suit to cover those areas, or if you're planning some kind of compromise on the sword, then you might want to check in more closely with the powers that be. They'll be able to tell you more exactly what they are and are not comfortable with. To me, though, looking at the image you've given us, those don't seem like rules that are going to cause any major problems for you.

My fursuit should cover up everything... even what's under the loincloth.

I think he was talking about partial fursuites. So long as your own body is covered up, with either a full fursuite, or a shirt and jeans, then your fine. Though I think that minotaur guy was an exception.
So long as your naughty area's are fully covered by either a full fursuite or a shirt and pants, your good to go. And also your fursuite is not allowed to HAVE naugty bits, since this is kind of a family con.

I know it's not allowed for your privates to show at Anthrocon. I don't think any convention would allow that.

The minotaur was an exception. Since a bare torso was considered an integral part of his costume and there was nothing that the law would consider to be "indecent," we did not kick up a fuss.
He looked quite good, too!

Okay. Would you think a fursuit based on my fursona, if you've seen the picture of it in the topic post, would be appropriate at Anthrocon?
