Hmm, I dont necessarily fit into any particular music genre. if it sounds good to me, I listen to it. I suppose one could say my music tastes are excitingly eclectic.

permalinkSeconded, although many of the originally listed artists are ones I listen to periodically, thanks to my loving mate who introduces me to this new music.
Also a good artist is Yanni. Not all of his stuff would be considered "New age", but some of it might be.
I recommend a few songs from Celtic Woman. One particular song would be:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfO6JpR5Ip8

I used to listen to Yanni. I like Celtic Woman's "One World" but I'll check out that song you recommended.

I like prettymuch anything save country >.> And even then a certian few songs have made it into my shuffle list.
But I typically listen to that stuff if I'm too stressed/not getting enough sleep. Kinda like my classical obsession.

I'm more of the alternative, hemo variety but country and a little rap make it in there as well.

I find is quite funny that a form of music that is based on and sang in the original Celtic language (Gaelic) is called "New Age", considering how old it is. Also "New Age" is a religious movement, and I believe Enya (among others) has stated that she is not into the "New Age" religion.
On the apparent topic of this forum, if you like Enya, you would likely appreciate Clannad, Mick West, Loreena McKennitt, Blackmore's Night, and Aine Minogue.

I've heard Clannad's music over the years; I've also heard music by Celtic Woman ("One World" is awesome!).

I know New Age is a religious movement, but we're talking about the genre of music here.

"New Age" music is commonly music created with the purpose of achieving a calmness for certain aspects of the New Age religion. Enya herself doesn't seem to appreciate being classified as "New Age", as she has stated. It seems to be a common point of discontent with the Celtic artists.
This is why I made that statement. New Age is a specific genre, but (IMHO and many others) these don't fall into that genre. They are Celtic and/or folk music, but not "New Age".
Just my $0.02, I'll leave this alone from here on out.

I know what you mean.
In fact, i once had a friend correct me about even using the term "celtic"--she knew several musicians who felt that "celtic" should be reserved for the pseudo-traditional tinkly stuff that's dominated by harps and hammered dulcimers. Since that stuff, coincidentally, is the kind of celtic that i don't much care for, i've since switched over to the term she recommended--"scots-irish traditional". It's still a bit of a misnomer, since breton and manx music ends up in that same pile, but that seems to have been less of an issue.
That said, i am, personally, a big fan of scots-irish traditional. Enya is nice sometimes (though i have to be careful not to listen to it when i'm likely to get drowsy); My celtic preference runs more to solas and capercaillie and kornog, tho (i'm a budding solas junkie). Their music tends to be a little fiercer and a lot more energetic, which i love.

You know I lived in Germany 2 1/2 years and do you know what song I heard on the radio more than any other?. It's raining men. I kid you not. They played that song about every hour. And now I know all the words.

Why, hello! You must be the great Uncle Kage. I'm Gushousekai195 and I'm planning to make my grand public debut at Anthrocon in 2008 in a fursuit based on my fursona. I'm very excited about going and meeting some real furries and maybe making a few new furry friends. Anthrocon sounds like the place for a furry like me - who's only been seen online so far - to finally appear offline. My mom says that my trip to the convention would be a good present for my high school graduation; I am a senior now. My mom, stepdad, sister, and youngest stepsister will be coming with me, too (dressed like animals, too); I'll need my mother to get me from A to B and back to A.
By the way, who are those artists you've mentioned?

Great? I don't know about "great." I've been doing my best to lose some weight.
We're going to be having a forum this year for parents of furries. I think your folks will have a ball there.
And those artists (with the exception of the last) are long, long before your time. Music was different then.

*snort* They aren't that old; steeleye span and silly wizard date back to the mid-70's. That's not that far before i was born.
Steeleye is a classic of the 70's folk revival, fusing folk-rock sensibilities with older british isles folk tunes. Broadside electric and wolfstone are other examples of this, though broadside is a virtual unknown for most folks and both formed(?) after that period.
Silly wizard was one of the greatest traditional bands ever to come out of scotland, good enough that they're often used as the benchmark for everyone else. Most of the time, if you ask someone for an example of a really fine scots-irish traditional band, two of the first names you'll hear are silly wizard (scottish) and the bothy band (irish). Really yummy stuff, played absurdly fast just cuz' they could.
*blissful sigh* Mmmm...silly wizard...
