The Canadian dollar closed Wednesday at C$1.0138 to the U.S. dollar, or 98.64 U.S. cents, up from C$1.0280 to the U.S. dollar, or 97.28 U.S. cents, at Monday's close." Story here: http://channels.aol.ca/news/article.adp?id=20070917120009990001 I'm not sure if this is going to continue, but if it continues to rise it's going to make things a lot easier for me financially for next year's convention. It's funny too... when I stopped off at the bank on the way down to the AC 2007, I was almost shocked at how much $$ I didn't lose when I exchanged my Canadian $$ for American. |

permalinkGrowing up and living around Detroit, we are well connected with our Canadian brethren. I can remember back when the Canadian/US exchange was way in the Canadian favor. All the malls along I-75 would have huge backups from all the Canadians zipping north to shop, or coming over to buy gas. It was quite a boon for the local Detroit economy.
Course I know Heather is sitting at home whimpering, cause as a Canadian artist who primarily works US cons, converting that strong US buck into Canadian was like free money.
It's a all a giant pendulum, swinging back and forth, back and forth, back and forth... rather hypnotic, isn't it?

I remember back then as well. We used to go into washington to shop all the time whenever we whent to BC to visit my uncle. Lol If things keep going this way, soon Many US citizens will be heading our way to buy gas and crowd our malls..lol.
Of course I will lose out on money if the Canadian Dollar gets stronger and I go into the states to sell my Artwork..lol. In a way it will always be a lose lose situation. If the Dollar Stays in the Canadian Favor, it will be cheap travel to the states, but loss of money in art sales, if the US dollar gets strong, It's more pricey to travel down there, but make more money selling art. HAH!
And there I go babbling again, Kage can I borrow some wine? it normally quiets me down.

permalinkSee that's the thing I don't get. Our dollar (Canadian) closed on par a few days ago from this comment here that I'm posting, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to just keep going up until it's this unstoppable juggernaut of whatever metal it's made of, but I hear people freaking out almost enough to make chicken little blush. Now I do understand that yeah, every day the dollar closes closer to or more than the U.S. dollar, it's less profit for Canadian business' up here who rely on export and internet sales.
Personally, I'd wait a month to see how things are looking (yeah as a business owner myself, I understand the concept of losing out for even just a day), but I'd give it that month's time and then just convert my prices over to Canadian dollars. A lot of people also fail to realize that there is a world outside of the U.S. that does sell plenty of products we're all used to buying from the land of the free, so I'm more inclined to believe that it could be good for the Canadian economy, if of course people outside of north America use CAD in their price tags instead of USD.
Either way, I don't have a Jesus degree in economics, I just know that if things continue on the way they're going it'll hurt at first but once you get used to it, it doesn't really feel all that bad.
