Volunteering was a great idea!

A bit nervous about going to my first Anthrocon ever, I was wondering where to go and what to do. Well, since this was everyone's first time at the DLCC, I figured that I'd be just as lost as they were. Then it hit me. Months before the convention I asked about volunteering, and Uncle Kagé was nice enough to point me in the direction of the volunteering section of the website. Why did I want to volunteer? Well, for starters, going to the convention and having nothing to do would make my experience dreary and horrible. Of course, there would eventually be a lot to do, but the day beforehand was pretty much people walking and talking in the lobby. Boring... I went to Con Ops and signed up to volunteer. They immediately gave me something to do. That happened to be bag stuffing. I got a first-hand look at the stuff Anthrocon would be giving out to people. I was placed in part of an "assembly line," and put something in the bag, moved on. We talked as we were doing this, awaiting to attain the magic number of 1700 I think it was, and as it turned out, these guys were pretty cool. I got along just fine and made a few friends, of whom I hope to see next year. Bag stuffing... wasn't my gig, but it kept me busy, and I got to learn about Anthrocon just by talking with these guys. I eventually volunteered about everywhere, registration, the internet lounge, the art show, and loading trucks at the end of AC. Anthrocon needed the volunteers, and I was willing to help. And it was the best use of my time because I had a lot of fun. If you keep busy, you'll never be bored, and you'll never be depressed. Of course, despite my 26 total hours of volunteering, I still had plenty of time to see all of the attractions that I wanted to see, so everything worked out. If you have the time to volunteer, please do so! It's really not that bad. |
Before we knew it we hit 2750 bags. And good thing that we did. We had no idea that 2,489 people would show up! 1700 would be a massive shortage.

Mm, volunteer cookies are the greatest!
If some one could thank Grandma Kage for that, please do.

Glad you brought up Kagé's parents.
My personal thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Kagé to being such a treat to meet and be with in the Art Show.
