When me and my family go to Pittsburgh for Anthrocon, I imagine that we'll be staying at hotel other than the Westin. I know the staff at that hotel, which ever one it may be, won't allow fursuits in their hotel and I don't think that I can simply come to Anthrocon on the first day and go into the Westin hotel to don my fursuit. Is there anything I can do? |

Actually the Westin does have restrooms on the ground level that you could likely use to change. You could also simply change in one of the headless lounges; unless you plan on stripping down completely. If that is the case then please do not use the lounges.

Dear lord, you want me to do what with that hairdryer!?

We actually have two fursuiter lounges at the con where you can change into your fursuit if you like: one in the Westin and one in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
Also, on the subject of which hotel to stay in, I feel I should point out that the survival of conventions such as ours is contingent on us filling the room block we have with our hotel(s).

permalinkThat includes the Omni as well as the Westin,
and the convention rates are a LOT less than the normal nightly rates, of course.
And you can reach the convention from both, of course.
And some other conventioners are attending and you can follow them to the center.
And so on.

Would I be allowed into the Westin even if I don't have a room there?

Yes, of course. Most of our programming takes place in the Westin.
As Giza said, you can stay in any hotel you wish to, but the Westin is (a) closest, (b) cheap, and (c) won't look sideways at a fursuit. If you stay at a hotel that isn't on our official list, they'll probably look quite askance at a fursuit.

Well, I won't don my fursuit at the hotel. My family will drive to the convention center, go into the Westin, and suit up; then, we'll make our way to the opening ceremonies.

Another thing: If it register online, won't I end up getting a reservation at the Westin or Omni? I would prefer to stay at a hotel where it'll be nice and quiet at night.

Registration online for the convention, or for a hotel room, are different beasts.

Most hotels are noisy in my experience... I just use ear plugs myself. Not that I get much sleep at a big furry con!

No.
Registration for the convention == your membership to attend the convention itself.
Reserving a room at a hotel == getting a room there.
These are two separate and distinct things.
