Westin reservations open.
|
Start the stampede at our hotel page. The Omni's reservation page still has a small glitch on it that they are working on. Give us a couple of days and we should have it ready. NOTE: Both the Westin and the Omni will charge a deposit on each reservation in the Spring. That deposit will be applied to your total bill when you check out and will be non-refundable if you cancel your reservation after that point. This has become necessary due to the sheer volume of last-minute cancellations we have seen in the past. |

The res system for the Westin seems to work just fine, I just made my reservation. It looks a bit funny on Firefox but works okay. See ya there!

Well is well.

Parts of some of the pages look a bit funky in Safari (text doesn't align with button graphics) and the "continue" button on the calendar popup for dates of stay didn't work, but I was able to make a reservation. UI for the Starwood login is confusing, it kept showing the login fields so I thought it wasn't working, then after I gave up on trying I noticed it had filled in the membership number at the bottom of the page, which I couldn't see. (It should have given better feedback and hidden the login fields.)

For the geeks: Enable the "Debug" menu in Safari, and use the Agent ID "Windows MSIE v6.0."
For the non-geeks: Download Firefox.

Firefox isn't just for non geeks. I love to play around and change the variables in the about:config page.

I think he just meant for the non-geek Mac users.
Firefox is better than any web browser or any OS though.

Reserving mine as soon as I get home, Don't wanna put credit card info on a school compy. Does anyone else have the AMEX card that gets you bonus starpoints you can use to pay for rooms at the Westin? If so can you tell me if i have to tell them ahead of time or can I just check out and say "oh by the way i have 12,000 starpoints".

In response to my own question, you CANNOT use starpoints to book for the con rate. you can however make multiple reservations using starpoints to pay for part of your total stay and pay the con rate for the remaining period. FYI at the westin one night is 7000 starpoints in case anyone else needs to do this.
*edit* also you need to do this over the phone, you can't do it online at all, they can't change reservations make online over the phone. *edit*

Could you see about increasing the room block for the Monday before the con? I can't get a room from Monday (the 23rd) through Tuesday (the 1st), but a room for Tuesday through Tuesday is available. I like to drive up late Monday night to avoid any and all traffic and be settled in before picking up friends from the airport on Tuesday. As I've done the past couple years. I make a vacation out of AC.

I just made my reservation so that I don't forget about it, only to be reminded when the "hotel full" notice goes up. I did see some language during the process that applies to the people paying by check that looks a bit scary (fortunately I used a card):
"If interested In Payment By Check, A Full Non-refundable Deposit for All Nights, Plus Tax Is Due By 4/25/2008. Cancellation after 4/25/2008 Forfeits All Deposits On File."
This sounds like if you pay by check, you must pay the ENTIRE fee by April 25, and if you cancel after April 25, you LOSE the ENTIRE fee. I certainly hope that is not the intent! Shouldn't that say "A Full Non-refundable Deposit for ONE night, plus tax is Due By 4/25/2008"?

You will find the hotel page here:
http://www.anthrocon.org/hotel
The room rate is $115/night and with the ESTIMATED taxes, $131.10/night (taxes are known to change at random). So the price that I was quoted for four nights was $524.40. Now to start spreading the word to my friends that I have the room and see who I get to share that with me.

I Am Booked!
I'm so happy that I'll have a room right there at the Westin and I've already got two out of the other three guests to join me. We'll either find a fourth or split the cost of the last night...either way, we're gonna have a blast.
Can't wait to see you all there next year. *Passes lots of love around to his fellow furs.* <3

Well, this is a first. Number one, it's the earliest I've ever booked my hotel room. But more amazing is that I filled up my roomie quota in less than 24 hours!
Even last AC with the attendance growth it wasn't until June that I had all my spots filled.
I wonder... will it happen this time... will Kage walk down to Ops and ask "What is the current attendance?" and the answer will be:
IT'S OVER 9,000!!!

I'm just curious as to why the price for the hotel room went up from 110, to 115? I'm not upset over it, just curious.

1929, you could buy a sandwich, a cup of coffee, and tip your waitress on a mere 25¢.
Today, you're lucky to do that on $10.

I dont know if the website hates me, but again, the website isnt letting me register.
it keeps the "We apologize that we cannot confirm your room reservation requirements at this time.
We are performing routine maintenance on our websites and will be back up and running shortly.
...please click below for telephone numbers...
We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience."
that happened yesterday, and still today, and last week.
I had the same problem last anthrocon but resolved after a few weeks (obviously, almost ended with no room XD )
Info:
I'm from Mexico
CC from Mexico ( BANAMEX bank )
*edit*
also forgot to say, the page GIVES RENDERING errors when using FIREFOX. ( im using the latest one ) and some text appears out of the buttoms (like the confirm )

I do not know what to tell you. Nobody else has reported this problem!
Can you try using Explorer? We know that the page does not work with Firefox. It's not our page, though, so there is nothing we can do to fix it.

Tried with IEexplore, the graphic problems went away, but still.. couldnt register, anyway a friend registered.
I think its a problem related with my bank and the VISA-MASTERCARD networks. cause I tried registering my plane too, and it gave me errors, claiming the bank refused to let me use my credit card ( wich is weird, since my dad and I called our bank and they claimed no problems.. ) :|

I got this message today when trying to book my room:
• The Westin Convention Center, Pittsburgh - PLEASE NOTE, THIS GROUP BLOCK IS CURRENTLY SOLD OUT. AN OVERFLOW BLOCK HAS BEEN ARRANGED AT THE OMNI HOTEL A FEW BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE WESTIN. RESERVATIONS CAN BE MADE BY CALLING (412) 281-7100.
No rooms are available for the criteria provided. Please try your search again.
Is this happening for anyone else?
If so, do we know if this is indeed the case at this time, or is it a problem with the system making it come up like this?

I've been getting that same message when trying to make a reservation for June 23-July 1 (8 nights). A room comes up available for June 24-July 1, so I suspect June 23 is the problem for me. Is this something that can be fixed or will I have to resort to the latter dates?

That's the issue. Easy to fix.
We only have a few rooms in our block on the outlying days. Once those are reserved, the computer says, "oops, no more rooms!" All we need to do is add more rooms to the block. I've sent a note to Jaime. Give it a day or two and try again.
