FurFright has closed up shop...
For those that haven't heard the news yet, FurFright will not be going on in 2014 or beyond. It really saddens me to hear the news about a great convention seizing operations, especially since it's the closest furry con to my home. This was a real heartbreaker to both the New England region and the furry fandom.
The main reason for FurFright to discontinue was because of the events in the con chairs' personal lives and family. They must've been really devastated by what has happened lately. The statement from FF can be found here: http://furfright.livejournal.com/
While FurFright is no longer operating, this may not be the beginning of the end for furry cons in this region. Rumors are now stating that former-FurFright staff members are trying to form a new fur con under a new name. If this is true and a new con forms, it'd be really awesome - a new beginning for New England's furry community. I sure hope so.
I was really grateful to have attended a wonderful con. FurFright was an event where I met such amazing people, saw some fun panels, and made such happy memories that'll last forever. I am also grateful for the staff and volunteers for putting their time and effort into making this convention really great. I want to say "Thank you" to the staff and volunteers who made FurFright a memorable convention.
FurFright is gone, but the memories will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
I've no idea why they couldn't arrange for someone else to run it.
Though all in all I hope everything is okay with their family.
Yeah, I can't understand Belic and K'gra not letting someone else run the con. However, I did hear about former FurFright staff members working on putting together a new furry convention to replace FurFright, so this might actually be a new beginning. I hope a new con comes around.

It does look that way: https://twitter.com/bioswoof/status/407280139656249344
Yeah, and the people organizing the new con were able to get the floor space FurFright had, so there'll be a new con! Now I can excitedly say "IT'S ALIIIIVE!!!!" They'll be announcing the name of the convention soon, so get your excited faces on!
Furry cons will come and go as the community changes. Sometimes running a con can be quite overwhelming, and for some, all good things come to an end.
The important thing is the memories that we have, and the friends that we've made over the years.
The end of one con could be, at least in some people's view, the beginning of another.
If you think about it, technically, anyone with enough knowhow could make a convention. It's really all about the support from the people who attend it.
Anthrocon is, by definition, people supporting themselves with the ideas they share and the commonalities we have in our interests. In essence, we couldn't be here without one another. Every single person involved with Anthrocon, from every member to every volunteer and staff, makes us who we are.
And who we are is a great thing. <3
This news saddens me... especially with the recent closure of Furry Connection North as well. Gir Tygrin and The Furry Connection Staff also cited personal reasons for needing to close the convention, as they had only planned to have the con for 5 years, but decided to extend it one extra year (last year). My best wishes to them and their families.
Although there have been a few recent closures, I still salute those who took the initiative and decided, at great personal burden, to host such amazing events. I know furcons have taken a place as some of the best memories in my life so far, and I am honored by the efforts of every furry involved to make such things happen. I give my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you.
I Hope they make a new con ^.^ Really do
Already happened. Look for furpocalypse.
I will forever miss Furfright because everyone at the furrycons helped me to be a better person
You can attend Furpocalypse and make more new memories there!
Aaahhh... I totally forgot to make room reservations for the main hotel. Ohwell... Next year I'll go. Lol
And we look forward to seeing you, here in Connecticut, next year!
But why not this year!?! There ARE several hotels very near the Crowne Plaza, (not "official" overflow hotels AFAIK) , but very reasonably priced.
I'm gonna have to contact the guys doing the "office work" and remind them to put the info on the other hotels locations and pricing on the Furpocalypse website.
