Wow, we just got a huge popularity boost here, seeing Furries vs. Klingons on G4, if anything else.

My roommate's comment?

"It could be worse."
"Yeah, we could have been interviewed on Larry King Live."

Okay, G4 got some kudos from me. Smiling

As always, G4 needs to appeal to the growing number of -chan kids to survive. Look at their ratings, it's absolute toilet time with that station.

On network television, that counts as slander, defamation of character, and sexual harassment opening themselves up to multi-million dollar lawsuits, as well as Kevin himself being open to all the same charges.

I hope he doesn't have a job right now because if their legal department had even the slightest clue what he just said he'd be in so much trouble he wouldn't be able to find another job for the rest of his life.

I wouldn't take it seriously. They wouldn't have interviewed Furries vs. Klingons if they didn't think that it would be good for ratings.

even so ratings or not it would be a very serious thing if they did get in a lawsuit.

kevin parera should be weary about what he says, he gets away with alot of crap...

and the reason is because its a show were your not suposed to take anything they say seriously, exept for the FEED news but in all serious ness what he said could have been taken the wrong way, and he CAN get in a lot of trouble.

i dont know, i might want to take him up in a law suit...jk

i personaly have no intention to do that, but he would probably loose the suit thats my bet.

because they would claim its for ratings...

and we would claim sexual harrasment against a group of people(furries)

and we would win because saying its for ratings is a poor exuse.

and they would loose because a what they said is slander, sexual harrasment and pretty much lies, it would suck for them.

i belive it would take them off the air, which is why i dont want anyone to sue them.

get my drift.

Let's not get too off-topic here. G4 is well known for their esoteric, slanderous humour.

IMO, there is no such thing as negative publicity. The bowling tournament was a friendly game, and it got us recognition.

its true they are well know for slanderous humor, but it dosent mean they can get away with saying somthing about a gruope of people that is not true.

and yes there is such thing as bad publicity... dare i say it.

* vanity fair article
* CSI: fur and loathing
* MTV's sex2k

i dont know, but i would say most of us furs would describe thoes as bad publicity.

granted this is mild compaired to thoes i listed, but it's still lies and slander.

and yes i agree that it gave us good publicity, seeing it was only a tournament, and it was mainly just a video of bowling and interviews of fursuiters and klingons.

but what i think we are talking about is what kevin parera said.

wich is a very wrong thing to say on public television.

To clarify, I myself wasn't really upset with what he said (it isn't my business to be offended at what some half-wit TV host says about someone I don't even know). But I wanted to mention that there is every possibility that the subject of his initial comment (silverfox, was it?) might be in a situation where his family knows about his furryness, and may even know some lingo. And hypothetically if they did know and were cool with it, then hearing that sort of comment on TV might make his personal life chaotic for a time while he tries to straighten that sort of thing out.

The same would hold true for any co-workers or friends of his that knew. And also...rare as they may be, there are furs who use their suits for public charity events and such and a comment of that magnitude could seriously disrupt their lives.

At my place of work, a cashier got fired for laughing at a joke that was on a customer's t-shirt. The joke was written across her chest. She wasn't happy with the thought of him looking at her chest, and complained to the boss until he got fired. My boss wouldn't give her the time of day because of how ridiculous it was, but she went to corporate and they of course didn't want to deal with a potential lawsuit.

In the day and age where looking and laughing at a joke someone *intentionally* places on their chest can get you fired under the guise of "sexual harassment", then accusing someone of socially unacceptable sexual behaviors on network television (no matter how poor the ratings) can get you lynched...literally. Or at least, should.

very true but i think what he ment was that "silverfox" is a fictional person...

he said it in a way that seemed like it was a joke, but the idea that it could be a real person is what could get him fired, and the thought that it could hurt someones life is too, unacceptable btw, he said it before the video showed if i am correct. making it more acceptable as a joke, but its still a wrong and slanderous thing to say because it implies it is a directed at everyone as a whole.

thats my thinking anyways

also i undertand were your coming from, if it was a real person it would be very bad for them.

The phrase "there's no such thing as bad publicity" is a hackneyed statement that only holds true in Hollywood, which thrives on scandal. Actual businesses and social groups can be (and have often been) destroyed by bad publicity.

If you don't believe me, ask yourself this: where is the Zeppelin company today? And do you think that Senator Craig would agree that "there's no such thing as bad publicity?"

When you mention Senator Craig and the Zeppelin, you mention organizations that actually had problems. I would like to raise another example.

Fatty Arbuckle - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatty_Arbuckle - Fatty Arbuckle, an actor, was at a party where a woman died. After one woman tried to blackmail him with fake reports, a newspaper chain decided that destroying him would be bad for sales, and a prosecutor decided that sending him jail (even if he wasn't guilty) would be good for his political career, his life was essentially destroyed.

So the phrase "There's no such thing as bad publicity" doesn't even hold in Hollywood.

You are correct. I must plead that I have been unable to sleep because I'm so excited about Anthrocon, and this caused distortion of my mental processes.

Next year, we shall invite Klingons to Anthrocon, and avoid all possible negative publicity.

Upon request, we do show up as the old-style Klingons. Nothing discombobulates a new-style Klingon as a late-middle-aged guy in full Old Klingon regalia walking up and shouting "HEY! WAFFLEHEAD! Didn't they teach you to DUCK when you walk through a hatch?"
