While I myself certainly do not mind that statement, that is certainly a very dicey comment that might get a lot of harsh responses. There are places in the world where slavery is still a major problem and as with any other cause, there are people who take it very personally.

True but everything could be considered an offensive comment. Due to the bad publicity just mentioning the furry fandom to a right wing nut could be considered offensive. If we start trying to please everyone then nothing will ever get done. Besides it was obviously said in humor.
I'm from Russia and came to the States in 1996. Yet, I'm one of the Russians who doesn't get offended by that comment.
It's a bad Yakov Smirnoff pun, of course, but hey, I have no problem with it.
It'd probably be the same way when I say "Consider it Russian hospitality. It's like you American's Southern Hospitality, only with a warmer heart and none of the inbreeding." I mean it as a joke but not something I'd say to EVERYONE. See, a lot of southerners would probably take offense to that, but I also know a few people from the south and they are the nicest folk I've ever known. And, even when I made that joke to them, they just laughed.
But, still gotta love Uncle Kage for looking out for everyone. Altho, I don't drink, I get you Vodka and we drink, da? *L* Don't mind me, I'm in a good mood right now.
But hey, I understand what Kage said. I thought joking around about human trafficking would have been a bit more sensitive of a comment but he's right, offense is just something we deal with as it turns up, then and only then.
Glad to hear you weren't offended. I just loved the irony of the statement, in itself being a bad joke and all. I just can't get enough irony. That or philosophy. That's why my previous signature was my personal philosophical belief that there is no such thing as "truth".
And for those of us who like rhetorical questions that are hopefully amusing...
-If someone walks up to you and says they are a pathological liar, would you believe them?
Ah, giza's getting into the spirit. If you'd like, I can get you those imfamous (fake)fur hats with the ear covers on them, along with the thick grey coats to go with it if you'd like.
As for the original purpose of this post, let me comment. Let the buying commence! Why worry about who we offend when we have a capitalist economy to support? Time to BUST OUT those Benjamins'!

A couple years ago, I was able to purchase at AnthroCon a copy of the EuroFURence pawpet show - "Phantom of the Pawpet Show". It was a BBF production, and I was amazed (and entertained!) by the talent and inventiveness of our european cousins.
Has the AnthroCon Store been able to obtain the later EF Pawpet performances? After reading such Con Reports as Kage's, I would be especially interested in purchasing this year's performance.
Not likely. The reason being that Anthrocon's con store exists primarily to sell Anthrocon-related things.
For each item that we sell, we have to worry about procurement, inventory, and fulfillment. Oh, and keeping track what was sold, too. On a year-round basis. As it is, we still have t-shirts and DVDs that go back 2-3 years.
So unless we find a way to scale up our yearly Con Store operations in a big way, we're not about to start selling stuff from other cons. If you want the EF Pawpet performances, you might want to like, talk to the people from EF.

Email me and tell me your T-shirt size. When the shirts come in I usually grab a handful to keep for archive purposes. I might be able to help you.

For example, the "Soviet Russia" gag may be very offensive to someone who lived through the Cold War on that side.
Let's not create issues where there aren't any. They'll arise on their own without our help, and we will deal with them then.
