Can't help but notice the zoo has moved this year. Any idea how comfortable the new location is or atleast if it will be closed off like the rest of the actuall convention center is after a certain time at night?
The new zoo will be open overnight; the rest of the Convention center will be off-limits from the usual 2am-8am period.
As for hor comfortable it will be, there will be walls, chairs, tables, floor just like the old zoo. Xydexx's request to have it be a giant bouncy castle was voted down.
I thought Xydexx would request to have HIM be a giant bouncy castle.

I now have a desire to get into suit and find a bouncy castle...
Where would the pittsburgh renaissance hotel be at on the interactive map?
It doesn't seem to be matked yet. If I'm right, find the Convention Center on the map. Follow Fort Duquesne (probably misspelled) to the west (left) to the third bridge. Turn left (that's Sixth Street) and the hotel should be (basically) right there.
Note: that's not official. It's just my best guess based on the address and Google Maps...

Where would the headless lounge be in the DLCC? I've gone to AC two years now, I know the layout of the place, I just never went as a suiter and never cared to memorize where it is. I know where the one in the Westin is, or used to be, just not of one in the primary con space. First time suiting, I'd rather know where it is so I can plan around it.
It is usually in he rooms straight across from the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom.

Rooms 301-305[*1], which are as Nicona mentioned, across from the SoP Ballroom.
[*1] It may not be all of these rooms; my memory is fuzzy. It is at least *most* of these rooms.
Yes, your memory is not fuzzy (although the rest of you is). The Headless Zone is 301-305.
I hate to come on so strong about this, but I sincerley think you guys should reconsider the new location for the zoo, and have it where it's always been, in the Westin
Any reason for this change? The old location, being IN the Westin, has such a relaxed and intimate feel to it, a central social hub with direct, casual access to our hotel rooms, etc. This new location seems like it will ruin that... I like being able to just wander out of the hotel room to the zoo and vice versa, seems like this is going to be a serious damper on things....
I had the same thoughts about the video game room being moved to the convention center, but I was wrong as it turned out really great!! (took a while to get going because nobody knew where it was!!!) I liked the videogame room it in the Westin for the reasons mentioned above, but i realised the game room is an activity hub, and the zoo is more of a relaxed social thing, so it makse sense to have it IN THE WESTIN.

The reason for the change is pretty simple: We have a dearth of spaces that accomodate between 200 and 500 people for medium-large events. The Allegheny Ballroom- where the zoo has been- is well suited to hosting some of those events, especially ones where lots of setup movement needs to occur (Which is much, much cheaper to do in the Westin over the DLCC.).
To note, only about 2,000 of our attendees stay int he Westin, so having the zoo there only directly affects about 40% of people for their hotel room access. We think the DLCC first floor location should provide a good social fell yet, with more space than the Allegheny Ballroom.
And we'll be asking for feedback about it after 2014. We're hoping the new zoo space will work well, and we expect it will; but we'll want to hear back on how it plays out in practice as well as theory. We'll also want to see if the benefits to programming to have use of the Allegheny Ballroom are amazing, moderate, or minor.
In short: We're definitely trying it out for 2014. In 2015? That depends on how it works out.

Presumably due to the union in the DLCC, which raises a question (in addition to the outside food one, which I suspect will cause some problems): will there be any issues with people moving chairs/tables around (as has been implied for other rooms there)?
I don't hang out in the zoo (I walk through it once or twice in case I recognize anybody, but that never happens, and is another story), but I get the impression the way it's initially set up isn't the way it ends up - I hope we won't be dinged any $$$ fines or whatever if that happens in the DLCC
As it's to be used as a 'social space' and not a 'programming room', there should be no problem with chairs being moved about; there shouldn't be too much need to move tables, but those would be fine as well. What the Union/DLCC would charge for is "This programming room had a theatre-style setup. Now it need to be rounds with tables for a luncheon; now it needs to be completely clear for a dance." Those sort of room resets, where the layout of the room is significantly changed, are what need to be paid for in the DLCC.
Well if this is absolutley set in stone, is there at least carpet in the new zoo location? I don't want to feel like I'm hanging out in a garage >< (unless I'm working on cars xD)
I'm sorry, there's no carpeting. Laying carpet in that room would cost well in excess of $10,000, and we don't have that much extra in the budget this year.
Can we at least get a bear skin rug or two?
I'm sure there's a few running around the con, and with all these secret societies converging, I am sure one or two can be made to 'disappear'...
Oh, you're terrible

We couldn't bear to bare the bears, a bared bear is bearly a bear.
So no rugs.
Plus, bears maul people. I ought to know, being one. I give out snuggles, but the second a fur trimmer is brought near me, or someone mentions rugs, I flip out.
I suppose people could bring their own rugs if they pick them up when they leave? also a non carpet floor has one good thing, easier clean up.
