Any furry musicians out there? (Besides 2?)
|
Okay, I was playing a little bit in Garageband, toying with loops and tracks and seeing what interesting stuff I can come up with. I have a preference for piano, but I can work with just about anything. I am by no means a professional, however. I know there are several furry artists in the music business, met a couple of them at Anthrocon, some with amazing talent I might add, and I enjoyed hearing their music (as well as dancing to it!) I'll post a couple of my compilations here. This was all done with track-editing. Nothing you hear came from a synthesizer nor a real instrument. All done by ear. I would also like to hear some works that you all might have. http://ultimategamers.org/MP3/Anticipation_of_the_Storm.mp3 (Classical) I'm more of the kind of person who can "hear" songs in one's head, but having no real ability to duplicate that to any given instrument. |

At AC05 (I think, might have been 06) I bought two techno CDs from someone, I have no idea who. If I were to guess by the cover of the two cases, I'd say "Noisy Panther" / "Joel. E. Ricketts".
I NEED more good techno like this! Does anyone know if he will be attending the next AC with new stuff?
For reference- the two CDs are "The Stellar War Saga" and "Dragonfire".

permalinkI'm both a Pianist and a Composer. I tend to play classical music on the hotel pianos for a little bit in the evenings. Only the second floor piano that is, because the Dorsai will kick you off the third floor piano regardless of the hotel policy.
My current compositional work is a Piano Concerto. In four movements, the mp3s are available here:
Movement I
Movement II
Movement III
Movement IV
Note, the second and fourth movements are very much incomplete. Only Movements I and III are finished.

That said, DJs for anthrocon are already selected, though if you're interested send Simba a mix and he can consider you for next year!

I was following the rave scene when SL2 came out, sir.
Lots of us know it. It's not actually anyone very unknown, SL2 was Hixxy and Vinylgroover if I recall correctly, they're still both major names in hardcore.

Slipmatt is still around but I don't think he makes anything close to that genre anymore, I'm pretty sure he lives in hard house land now.
By the way, awesome track of Slipmatt's that I found a while ago. Sorry for the youtube; only link I could find.

Well, if you're attempting to make friends, I can point you back to the fact that I'm the only person who's responded to anything you've said here, really to try and include you, and you've sorta just acted... yeah. So the point is if you actually want people to acknowledge you here, or in any social situation for that matter, don't take the attitude that you know everything, try and stay on topic when people are having a conversation and don't spam endlessly.
And that's where I end it.

Guys, please don't litter my topic.
I've created something new here, messing around with the techno stuff on my 'puters, and I put something together that is more of a trance-ambient style music, I wonder if anyone would be interested:
http://www.ultimategamers.org/MP3/Twilight%20Sunrise.mp3
Feel free to download any of my stuff and use it. Give me credit, doesn't have to be monetary, though.
What do you think?

I'll toss out an honest critique here.
It's got a lot of good ideas, and I see where you're trying to go with the like, epic ambient sound.
It's interesting, it doesn't really go anywhere though. The ambient arpeggio is definitely doing its thing for too long, the drums are a little on the repetitive side and the end sounds absolutely out of place, especially after that reallyreally long section of blippy noises that never returns. It just sorta becomes a different song halfway through.
Prolly shorten it a bit, do a little bit more something to the drums and cut down on the complete and near-instant shift of direction in the middle an' you'll be gettin' somewhere.
Also, what do you mean 'interested'?

The idea was to have two songs in the same file.
It's basically remix material, not something to be danced to.
"Interested" as in anyone can have the music for their own use, personal or professional. I'm not charging a cent for it, nor do I care.
I don't make music professionally as you can tell. The issue that I have with some of my music is that the loops that I have would need to be reprogrammed. What one person would find a 2 minute song enjoyable, I would find too quick and want to play it over and over. (I'm weird like that.)
Thanks for the tidbits, though, that helps a bit. Most of this stuff done is "by ear," meaning I'm just making guesstimates as to what sounds good. To me, at least.
An example of a really repetitive song would be "Robot Rock." It starts off cool, but, where does it go?
Some stuff that I've sampled from Shpongle is really cool, though. They take their music to places that I didn't think existed. ^^

Right, but Robot Rock isn't all that good. ;D I'd never attempt to pattern anything you produce after what Daft Punk does, they have a unique touch which somehow makes people like their stuff but really I think the appeal is minimal. I'd not drop a daft punk song, ever.
Not saying you're on that level of boring. Just makin' a point. Major names doing it doesn't necessarily mean it's good. You can think about all the electronic artists who've made it to the mainstream in the past ten years: darude, dirty vegas, eiffel 65, cascada (for example). They all produced pretty tired tracks that were way behind their time and pretty lame even for the genres they were attempting to be, but got huge. Repetitive isn't actually a big draw in electronic.
You can break up your track by throwing in little splashes of sound on the 8's and 16's and 32's. Also, coming up with a few new tricks for that arpeggiator would be neat. Also, I haven't listened to it in a while but I feel like the track lacks a break or even a drop, which is a fairly important component of something in the realm of electronic as it does wonders for breaking up the repetitiveness of the main stab. That'd prolly do a lot for listenability.
Again, I'm just offerin' advice from my perspective. Take it or leave it, in the end it's your music and you can do whatever you want and that's cool. 'Swhat it's all about.

permalinkI've been following since 1994 hardly even in jr high but knew about them and the music. I just got some Reading festival tickets i've never been to this concert but heard every summer that it's really good.

permalinkYou know it's funny you mention the Reading festival because I heard that they got lots of great musicians there. There's this one guy I heard of that learned to play violin using the first step method and is like a virtuoso or something. But the cool thing about it is that he play like a rock-based style music and incoporates strings like cellos and violins in his music. It's pretty sweet.
