Hopefully I will be sharing a table with Aura this coming year. However this will only be my second con ever- and last AC I didnt sell anything, not even at the artist ally. Sooooo I would REALLY love some input from some people who have been there and done this before. So here are some of my questions: What to sell What do I need for the table? Anything else I should know? @_@;; I am SO nervous about this- but Im SOoooooo excited as well! |

Woot! Cant wait the 220days!

I hope you don't mind, but I moved your post into the General Discussion forum, since I think potential dealers are more likely to read that forum then the classifieds one.
I'll let other folks here address some of your other questions, but one thing I'd like to mention is that if you will be selling your own wares, you will need your own sales tax number. The good news is that those are free from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.
Also: is there a URL where we can view your work? Inquiring leopards want to know!

Most artists in the Dealer's room sell a mixture of prints, sketchbook and badge commissions, and other merchandise. If you were at last Ac.. you've seen what other people have. It's good to have some prints available, and best to sort them into a "All-Audiences" and an "Adult" book if you have art of both categories. This makes it easier for people to select what they want, and lets two people look at your art simultaneously.
Start your prices low, especially on the first day. If you fill up on badges/sketchbooks/etc, then you'll know to raise prices for later in the con, or for next con.. but getting art out there is important. Make sure those prices are visible and clearly marked, and your name is too!
Makes sure what you have for sale is neatly displayed. Ask other artists what seems to work for them, is perhaps the best advice I can give as a non-artist.
Oh, and if you have mongoose-related works, I'll buy one, dang near gauranteed.

Yeah I have gotten a lot of things ready!
Like two binders (one naughty, one clean)
Lots of sleeves for the art and such (I dont think I am going to have prints there)
I have to figure out how much for sketch books and conbagdes!
^_^ And I am going to have to make a sign for myself! I am sharing a table with Auradeva so she is a big artist O_O so hopefully she pulls some customers my way XD Im still REALLY nervous about my art not being good enough for the dealers room- so for the next 5 or so months I am going to be practicing my anatomy, and speed drawing
hopefully to help me with the con!

I've seen your art on FA, you should be ready for the Dealer's room.
I'd recommend that you charge $20-25 for color conbadges, which is the going rate for a non 'big name' artist. Sketchbooks I would start at $25 for pencils, more for inks, more for color, etc. Some artists will charge extra for big sketchbooks or less for small ones.
It's good to have a few prints if you can. Prints almost always outsell 'original art' that's not in someone's sketchbook, at least by volume.
As for me, I prefer clean-but-pinuppy female mongoose art! I'm usually willing to whip my money out for anything mongoose-related if I spot it, though.

You'll be having a table with Aura, you say? How interesting, she's one of those participating in my animation project.
I may have to shanghai you as well, since you'll be within reach of my claws... >:3

Hi! I'm actually one of the Dealer's Room Staff, so if there's anyone who knows what goes on in that particular room, I'd be one of them. I'm not a dealer by any means, mind, but I get to see all the goings-on throughout that frantic weekend.
There's really no distinct definition of what you should or shouldn't sell if you're an artist. We see the whole gamut--paintings, prints, originals, CD or DVD collections, and then some. You really can't go wrong.
Probably the best advice I could give you is to ask Aura. She's done this a few times so far, and she could probably tell you a lot from her experiences at this and other cons.
If there's any other questions, the staff of the room can often be some degree of help, though really there's no "right" or "wrong" answer--bring what you think you need and let the crowds help you with the rest.

Thank you so much! Yeah I figured as much, but I really wanted to see what people maybe WANTED to see in the dealers room.
I have been doing some ceramics and I was going to paint some furries on them- but I didnt know if people would buy it. Same thing for some metal smithing pendents
Another question I had was about originals what people look for in the originals? what attracts them to sketches? What creatures? Quality or content? Unfinished or clean?
XD To be honest Im really nervous about the dealers room. ><;; im scared I am going to forget something or miss something and it ruin my time at the dealers room. Im also worried im going to bring too much. Im going to be flying there so I have to cut back. ><;

There's nothing to be afraid of. Make a list of what you need to bring well in advance (like, now!) and check things off as you pack them. Don't forget things like your ID, which you'll have if you're flying, and your PA State Sales Tax License.
If you bring too much, you can always bring it home again. And you can ship some things to the hotel ahead of time. Check out the Helpful Information for Dealers page we put together.
Remember, if you are bringing more than you can carry yourself, you might have a friend or two help out. If you have any sort of wheeled conveyance (other than, say, a small wheeled suitcase such as you'd carry on to an airplane), you'll need to drop it off at the door and have one of our dedicated teamsters carry it in for you.
EDIT: Most important thing: CHANGE! Bring a big stack of 1's and 5's, as well as a roll or two of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.

It's impossible to say what people want; they seem to be so fickle, these beings of free will and opinion! I couldn't hand you a list of what'll sell, what'll be popular, and what may instead lead to you being hauled off in shackles and tossed off the nearest cliff into the sea--it doesn't exist. People are different, opinions vary, and really it's unpredictable until the event.
That doesn't mean there's a wrong way to do it, either. Bring what you want to sell; present it as your unique wares, and see how the masses react. Originals, sketches, sculptures, metal bits...so long as you're not peddling in human beings or narcotics, you really can't do the wrong thing. Part of what makes you interesting as a vendor is what you bring as your own works, no matter what they may be. Media be damned, people want to see what you as an artist will present to them.
There's little need to fear, really--you simply can't screw this up if you sit back, breathe deep, and go "by golly, I'm talented, and I'm gonna go show 'em why".

You have a staff box now.
I add them as-needed. It's saner than going through the nearly 2,000 user accounts we have...

Nothing like a staff box on your posts to say, "Hey, look at me! I'm sensible, i'm personable, and i don't know when to run screaming into the night (or if i do, i'm really slow)!"
