Westin Hotel Booking / Availability / Questions

First of all my Bookings are Tuesday 24/06/08, to , Monday 30/06/08

I see the Westin has gone from a 36% booking capacity to 67% within the last fortnight, I believe.

When I tried to make a booking through the AC site back then, it said it was fully booked, so I panicked and actually telephoned the hotel and it seemed it wasn’t fully booked. So I made the reservation right there and then to secure it. Was there a problem with the Westin booking a few weeks back?

I'm wondering if the 67% is the total hotel capacity or just the likes of the Fursuit floors, and I have read the “Easy-access hotel rooms for fursuiters” by Giza

I’d like to apply in May for the Fursuit floor, don’t want to miss it! Any chance of a mail shot to notify us its availability to take requests? Just a quick email : )

Also I did intend of arriving on the Monday at the Westin, but changed it to Tuesday as the good fellow on the phone, Mark, said the booking for Monday was $325, instead of $115 under the wing of the conventions deal. Is this still the case that Monday isn’t offered at the discounted rate?

Thanks in advance for the help!

More like two months, actually.

It's more like we just filled up the number of rooms which were alotted to us. We don't get the entire block of 500+ rooms at once. It is released to us in groups.

That's the total hotel capacity. Keep in mind that we will undoubtedly have some cancellations before the cutoff date at the end of April.

I'm not sure what you are asking for here. Can you elaborate?

Monday is covered under the convention rate. Remember how I said that we only get a certain number of rooms released to us at a time? It's not the same number for each night. The hotel (correctly) assumes that since most of the nights will be on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the most rooms are put into our room block on those nights. For other nights, the amount is less.

If you tried making the reservation more than 2 weeks ago and are still interested in arriving on Monday, would you mind calling up the Westin and seeing if you can get Monday on the convention rate? If more recently, let us notify the Westin first. Smiling

Thanks!

Actually, Monday is something of a concern. There is an event the weekend ahead of us, and the hotel is nearly booked solid then. They only have a few rooms left, which they prefer to sell at the standard rack rate. Anytime there is an event for which there is a special convention rate, the hotel always keeps a few rooms in reserve at the "usual" price in case someone shows up who isn't with the convention. Well, that's the case on the Monday prior to Anthrocon.

I wrote that very early in the morning asleep, sorry I didn’t be more specific.

“More like two months, actually.” – I thought that a big jump like that couldn’t be true! But was updated resently right? Never mind.

-I'm not sure what you are asking for here. Can you elaborate? -- When in May it becomes available to make a request for the lower floors of the Westin, is there any chance of a email from the site informing us its available to submit the request of the lower floors. Save checking the page daily / hourly in May!

From Unclekage comment regarding Monday, it may be better then to hold back on turning up on the Monday after all. I don’t know, now!

I hope Im not sent to the top floor because I booked directly through the hotel and not the AC page, I would like to be on the lower floors tba. Hmm but I take it that’s what the May request is for?

Oh no! I hope I haven’t made a shambles of this!

No worries, mate. As long as you have the reservation, you're fine.

As for where the room is, that's not something that can ever be guaranteed for a number of reasons. Come May, we'll take requests for the fursuit floors (easy access by stair). Even with that list, we still cannot guarantee that the room will be on a low floor. The hotel will keep your name on that list and will shuttle people whose names aren't on that list up to the higher floors; however, if someone arrives on crutches or pretends to be a frail little old lady (like my old mum, who could run circles around you), that person is likely to be put onto a lower floor.

In short, the hotel will keep your request in mind, but they can't hold any particular room until you show up if they've got a person standing there with cash in hand. After all, they can't run the risk that a guest might not show up at all.
