Announcing the new, improved ANTHROCON HOTEL SHUTTLE!
We took the feedback that our attendees gave us about the hotel shuttle and have made a deal with Pittsburgh Transportation Group to offer an even more awesome shuttle service than last year! Here are some of the highlights.
1) This year there will be TWO shuttles running on separate loops, allowing for more frequent circuits.
2) Shuttles will service the Omni William Penn, the Doubletree, the Marriott City Center, the Wyndham Grand Hotel, and the Renaissance, running continuously to and from the convention center from morning until 2 AM. (Sorry, Hampton folks -- it's in the wrong direction, but it's very close as it is!)
3) Both shuttles, we are told, will be wheelchair-accessible.
4) Pittsburgh Transportation Group is working on improved signage so that people can easily find the shuttle stops.
UPDATE!! Here is the official shuttle service timetable, a map showing the two routes the shuttles will take, and information about the shuttle stops! Click here! Yes, right here!
This sounds Great, the only major problem I saw with the Shuttles last time was Signage honestly. Folks not knowing where to wait, and which buss it was and such, quite glad its making a return this year for those who are in the perifery hotels(especially suiters)
Thank for doing all that, I heard they were a great feature last year. I always get a Westin room but maybe I can go visit the other hotels now!
I tried the AC shuttle once last year. Between not knowing where to wait, the long wait when I DID find the spot and the fact that they already had a passenger that they had to drop someone off somewhere a long ways away I could have gotten to the Doubletree in maybe half the time. Kages post suggests things will be better this year but am still glad Im staying at the Westin this time around. A shuttle is just not a substitute for being right next to the convention.
all good news.hopefully the shuttles will have better signs so that you can tell they are part of the con.
Put some ears and a tail on the busses, no mistaking them then xD
Unless they're mistaken for Lyft taxis and impounded.
I'm glad to hear that the shuttle will be continuing this year. My friend and I booked at the Renaissance for a change of scenery this year, and while the walk isn't too terrible right now, once the July heat hits, it probably won't be as pleasant.
I'm soooooooooooo Glad to hear this!! Because I have problems walking already, and the shuttle last year was great, but...... It wasn't the best. It would suddenly stop without knowing. There was one point where I was waiting on it to come back around, and didn't know that was the last run. Or if you blinked you missed it. They didn't really stay at the hotels for a good bit of time to let people get on or see if anyone wanted on. I'm just glad there are improvements this year!!
Is there a ride charge to use this shuttle? :3
The shuttle is completely free for Anthrocon's membership.
To belabour a point,
AC members (AC'ers wearing their badges) do not need to pay anything to ride
The use of these shuttles was paid for from the operating budget for AC.
So, AC'ers already paid for their use.
(They're not "free" because AC had to pay lots of money for them,
and that money came from attendees, Sponsors, SuperSponsors,
Is there a recommended tip for the driver?
The amount is entirely up to you!
I would use it more if the shuttle bus looked like the shuttle bus in the picture above but sadly no catbuses in Pitsburg.
I dont mind the small walk from the Hampton! There they have free breakfast and parking =3
Looking forward to trying out the shuttle. couldn't find it for the life of me last year. Walking from the Omni in suit during the hot points of the day was a work out. Having the shuttle also lessons the wear of footpaw soles!
Thanks for keeping it!
