Be careful in the nasty weather.

I've just pulled up some weather reports about the Northeastern US, and it looks like that you guys are getting hit pretty hard, Pittsburgh, Albany, Boston, mixes of ice and rain. Take care when driving out there, especially during the holidays! |

Thanks for caring, where I live, in Rochester, NY, we're probably getting about 2 feet of snow this weekend. I'm glad I'm off of work on Sunday, but I have to work on Monday. I work 8 hours outside, pushing shopping carts, not fun in the snow. I'm just glad I don't drive. I walk back and forth to work.

permalinkWell thus far my little city here has had two storms of freezing rain. It's made for some interesting moments, but a lot of beautiful scenes. I wish I could have photographed them, but by the time I got home and got my camera handy, most of the ice had melted. You should see Pine trees when they have a complete coating of ice on them, those bristles look like giant snowflakes!
So long as no big storms hit here late January I'll be okay.

Appreciate the concern we have so much snow here my little seven foot pines are bent at a 90 degree angle and the snows still coming we have a blizzard warning until tonight.

Yeah, down here it seems the only place it snows is on the road. Thanks for the concern, but unfortunately I read it a little late. I totaled my car about 2 weeks ago, but I've got a new one now. I missed a lot of work though, so now I'm working 13 hour shifts to make up for it.

Well, I think either my freezer had somehow shifted into Overdrive, or the North Pole is moving closer to the U.S. I'm just waiting to see a team of huskies pulling a sled down the main street. xD But yes, Just not too long ago, I was hit with a horrible storm here in Norton, MA. First day was like a bomb going off. But after that, things began to smooth out, as the roads were cleared.
Anywho, I thank you TSG for your concern. ^_^
My only advice to people is PLEASE drive slow. I know that some of you have either 4-wheel drive, or All-Wheel drive, but please have a little consideration for those of us who don't have such devices.

permalinkThe problem is that a lot of people plain don't know how to drive in that kind of weather. They just freak out and slam on the brakes to keep from going past 10mph. I avoid the roads to avoid people like that. There's enough accidents on the road, I don't need my car to be a victim.

Welcome to the board community. *smiles*
Philadelphia has been getting the same kind of weather, lately--bitter cold, often with intense winds, but just cold enough to make the rain miserable and sometimes fit to freeze, without the payoff of a nice quiet snow.
Even for driving purposes, i'd much rather have snow than freezing rain. And i'm usually walking through it instead of driving, so then i'd much rather the snow.

Much familiar to a snowed-out situation, I am curious to see of any images that some people have in their own towns. I've seen news reports all over showing massive ice storms which have knocked out power in a lot of cities, in certain cases, some losing power for weeks. The ice continues to layer up and weighs down the power lines, snapping them like twigs. Eerily beautiful and gruesome sight at the same time.
Kind of makes you impressed about Nature's awesome power... doesn't it?
I see so many fools here in Minnesota who think that just because you have a 4x4, you can rip-rocket across the roads at full speed. The ice will get you, sooner or later. Many a cars have I seen stuck backwards in a ditch, waiting hours for the patrol to show up. An expensive tow bill it be.
I've never been stuck in a busy road myself, but I have spun out once or twice. Some of the hardest experience to gain is during the harsh winter. @_X
I remember back in 1990, when I used to live in Anoka, where in October we got hit with 26 inches of snow, with drifts as high as 40 inches. A lot of people here couldn't even get out of their homes!

Ow... My back. Ruined it shoveling out for the first storm on Thursday and then really ruined it with the slushy snowy crap we got on Sunday. Now it's all ice. Great x.x

We had only rain here in South Jersey. But the wind last night was crazy! I estimated some long-lasting gusts hit 60 mph! One of our trees was blown down, but fortunately it wasn't a huge one and fell between the houses.
It had a fungal disease anyway, I said it needed to be cut down last year.
Thank you storm! :3

Wait? You can't wait... If I had waited til the next morning to get it, it would have been a 50' stretch of solid ice 8" thick. Gotta get it when the storm stops but before it re-freezes overnight. Wet snow is a b***h like that.

permalinkHere in central Maine the weekend storm started as snow with temperatures only in the single digits. Then later Sunday evening it changed to freezing rain. After it was over there was about 8 inches of snow with a thin icy crust. We are supposed to get another 6 inches of snow tomorrow night. Time to get my snowmobile registered! Unfortunately I hear it is going to warm up and rain next weekend.
