Anthrocon 2014 Pocket Program DRAFT
We're pleased to announce that our draft of the Anthrocon pocket program is now available for review by our membership!
The PDF of the draft can be found online over here.
[Edit, May 28th 11:25 PM: Thank you everyone for your input, all input has been added to the list of changes to merge. A final version (aka what we send to the printers) will be posted next week.]
[Edit, May 26 12:30 PM: An updated version has been posted]
If anything looks wrong, mangled, misspelled, duplicated, suspicious, or just a little funny, please let us know so that we may correct the error before the pocket program goes to publication.
Comments can either be posted here or emailed to us.
See you all in just a few weeks,
- There's no information about the dances. They have scheduled times, but there's no description (locations, DJs, etc.).
- Is there a reason why the fursuit photoshoot doesn't get a description in the program? I don't believe I've ever seen a description for it, any time I've attended Anthrocon.
On page 13, 'ask abour 6:2,1.' -- 'about' is spelled wrong.
On page 13, Missing space between "philanthropies." and "The" in Myths about Fraternities.
On page 14, Missing space between "furriness." and "Meet" in Disneyana and the Furry World.
On page 16, Missing comma after "writers" in Females in the Furry Fandom. The Oxford Comma is used elsewhere in the program listing, except for that one sentence.
On page 18, currency is in wrong format. Dollar sign goes before the value: $5. Currently have 5$, in "AC Car Meet."
On page 18, inconsistent capitalization of 'podcast.' Should be lower as it was not defined as a proper noun in the article.
On page 19, should be 'hooved-animal' and 'hooved' in "Hoofer Meetup."
On page 58, Missing a dash between "non" and "digital" in "Funday Pawpet Show LIVE."
On page 64, "Objects" and "Resolve" are not proper nouns and should not be capitalized. "The object is to clear your screen" -- "object" should be "objective" in Radar Control Demos.
That's all I could find. I read all 69 pages! Hehe, 69...
Abrahm and Mundoo, thanks for the feedback! I've passed that onto our Publications Director and the rest of the Board.
By page number:
8: duplicate descriptions for Lee's panels; no time given for Jim's second panel; "to for" s/b "for".
13: "abour" s/b "about".
14: "do not's" reads better as "don'ts" (see page 57).
17: "used in royalty as gods" s/b "used by royalty as guards"?
18: "Wresting" s/b "Wrestling".
55: "chairty" s/b "charity".
p 57: Oh! Pawpets! Live! shown ending at 11p (overlapping Pawpets Gone Wild!); grid shows ending at 10p.
Likewise p. 63 (last two items)
pg 15 3DS panel, last line might read better as "here if you have one" or just "if you have one." Current form seems to request that people who have aquired a 3DS "here" (at the con) to bring it (I could be mis-reading this, I'm not a grammar teacher by any means).
pg 19 missing opening paranthesis in Hoofer Meetup
pg 20 Last minute sewing panel "constrauction" mis-spelling
pg 21 Fursuit parade explanation of Hall A opening time sounds redundant: "The hall is open starting at 1pm to allow all participants time to assemble in Hall A." Perhaps drop "in Hall A" as it is identified in the preceding and following sentences. You then have another sentence re-stating that it opens at 1 to allow time for assembly. Just sounds a bit redundant, unless that was the goal.
pg 60 Magic: the Gathering in "Multiverse-the" should there be spaces around the dash?
pg 60 Sonic "fend of" should be "fend off"
pg 65 Lupus missing period at end of description
pg 66 You Bring It "play again with" might be better as "play with again."
Several events are missing descriptions. Only three of the writing events have descriptions, but I found a lot more in the schedule grid.
Awww, no Kyell Gold panels?
EDIT: Once the final goes live, does anyone know if the app is going to be updated?
EDIT2: Oh wait, is there a page or two on the end missing for the Writing panels? I see a few missing descriptions but are included on the grid.
There's a phone app?
I think its an unofficial app, but it gets used every so often. Sometimes it skips a year in being used. It's called "AC Information." Searching "Anthrocon" in the app search makes it show up too. So can't guarentee to be error free due to it not being official.
Search for 'MyConbook', which is an unofficial Android App and mobile-browser site. It is maintained through the kind efforts of AndrewNeo, for multiple conventions.
Both your "old" and "new" links are to the same 5/26/14 version (not sure if that's intentional) which still has typos I listed above (you probably know that).
That's intentional. I updated both links so that there were no links to the "old" version from my post.
Not all typos were corrected in the new version, but some missing pages were added.
Aside from minor typos and general layout, does this reflect the final compilation of panels and programs scheduled?
Speaking in my position as Fandom track lead, here are the errors I found. I focused more on panels themselves, and general suggestions, as opposed to typos.
Transfurmations panel is missing.
Disneyana panel should probably not be scheduled opposite Jim Cummings if avoidable; could kill it. It also needs co-panelist "Joatmon" added to it; this was my error.
Mil-Furs/Greymuzzle breakfast is not listed. Make sure to do this; poor Tyrrlin has had errors the past two years and we really need to get it right this year!
So You Want To Be Published? and Doing the Write Thing panels are missing.
Firearms in Furry Art is at a time not requested by the panelist.
On MLP panel, "Kinkyturtle" is listed as "KT", which may have been an editorial decision.
Gallafurrians Unite seems to have been replaced by a different panel with a different panelist? I'd really not like to let them down.
Rodents! panel is missing.
Greek Life Furs Meet and Greet is missing. (Possibly overlaps Myths about Fraternities?)
Gathering of the Scalies is missing.
Creative Writing Panel by Thorfax is missing. Possibly removed due to overlap.
So does this mean that my panels did get approved?
I've emailed you what I know at this time.
i have a small concern/gripe i'd like to mention
why is the dragons meetup and the galifraians meetup at the same time?
most of the other dragons i've met are also sci-fi fans/who-vians. this seems counter-intuative/productive if you think about it.
if this is just the rantings of an annoied attendie, just ignore me....
Things have to overlap with other things, unfortunately; when you have as rich and thorough of programming as Anthrocon does and only three and a half days to schedule it all, it'a a guarantee two things you will want to see will be happening at the same time.
On page 14, the Kpop panel at the bottom does not have a time slot at all nore a description. It says TBD which I'm assuming means to be dictated?
To Be Determined, actually, but in general it means that they don't know where or when yet.
Thank you very much ^3^
On one of the panels it says "your first con" with KP and Kage, i see Allegheny 3, can someone tell me where that is located? Im a noob, 14, and wish to attend that panel. Do remember, my intellectual level is not that high so I really don't know much about that location. And might someone my age attend Kages story hour, I do not see age restriction but I've seen examples of his work, so I know they can be a little strong at times. Would it make a difference if I had my father attend it with me? Or is there something that can be signed, etc? Apologies if there are 2 of these comments, it did not register on my ipad the first time, and gave me 403 errors.
If you see anything that does not say 18+, then you are free to attend it. If it is 18+, you cannot go to that panel, regardless of whether you have you parents with you. Uncle Kage's Story Hour is not age restricted, so you can go. I can't tell you where exactly Allegheny 3 is located as it's my first time, but there should be maps provided in the final release of the pocket guide.
"Allegheny 3" would be the grand ballroom on the third floor of the Westin hotel (The ballroom can be sub-divided into 3 smaller event spaces, resulting in Allegheny I, II, and III).
While many of the larger events are held at the Convention Center (or "DLCC") itself, several other program panels and such are held inside the event-space on floors 2 and 3 of the Westin, our primary hotel located next to the DLCC.
There is a map listed over in the "Information" section of the sidebar on the left side of this page...but I have a link:
A copy of this map should be included with the Pocket Program which you will receive when you finish registration and get your badge and con bag.
The ever-popular (and highly informative) "So This is Your First AnthroCon" presentation is recommended for all AnthroCon First-timers, and the basic information applies to any furry convention or any other type of "fannish" convention (Sci-Fi, Anime, BronyCon, Mystery, RailFan, etc) as well.
Much appreciated, but one alst question, do you have to be staying at the Westin, for instance have a room there, to attend the panel? Or could you go just by entering the Westin and going up? I know that question is kind of, simple xD, but I'm just trying to get everything together so I don't look stupid getting lost running in circles.
I know that question is kind of, simple xD,
For someone who has never been to a convention before, it is an extremely practical question!
No - all you need to attend ANY event or panel in either the DLCC OR in the Westin is your AnthroCon Badge, which you will receive when you complete the registration process; it grants you FULL ACCESS to any event which isn't listed as a Supersponsor event (of which there are only a couple) or is age-restricted (of which there are perhaps 2 or 3, including the Mature section of the Art Show).
Dr. Conway has prided himself on keeping the "Uncle Kage's Story Hour" as Family-friendly as possible; so you will have no problem in attending that performance.
And a further navigational hint: With the exception of the "Spirit of Pittsburgh" ballroom in the DLCC, all of the events held there are in rooms with numbers or Hall Letters (Room 301, Hall "B", etc). The event rooms in the Westin all have placenames, from various geographic locations around Pennsylvania (Westmoreland, Allegheny, etc). So if you see an event or panel with a placename, it's in the Westin; if it is a room number, it's in the DLCC.
In addition, all the function rooms in the Westin are on the 2nd floor except for Allegheny, which is the biggest and occupies the 3rd floor. To help folks in finding their way the pocket program lists the floor number, "Westin 2 Westmoreland", "Westin 3 Allegheny", etc.
For those staying at other hotels, the Westin function rooms can be reached by a separate set of elevators, by the gift shop in the lobby, which are less busy than the main elevators. There is also an escalator in that area too, and stairs in the lobby.
Wow, I'm impressed. Very thorough reviews. I see several I missed!
Keep it up guys!
( Happend to see an error on page 55, "Lane night" instead of the correct "Late Night" )
"Radio Unifurse and the Rabbit Hole
Sunday 1.00 - 3.00p Soncigott, Jasper Blue, Westin 2 Westmoreland
Lane night Sunday talk, music, podcasts, and more! Radio Unifurse and the
Rabbit Hole team up for an interactive live event at Anthrocon 2014. Audience
participation is encouraged! Music, obscure news, fail blog, spits or swallows,
improv, and more!"
Sonicgott was misspelled, too? Oh dear.
I don't see anything wrong, Sonci.
We are stiill missing a few of the fursuit track panels that were already submitted. Once I have the offical room/date and time Panda and I will get all the E Mails confirm out. If you do not see your name on here and you submitted a fursuit track panel, please let me know as soon as possible.
Im letting you know as soon as possible that I didn't see my panel in the draft schedule
Hey Everyone, just so you know, KP has pulled off his hero's cape and mask in favor of his accountant's green eyeshades and is now making all the final changes and edits to the pocket program. He won't be able to take any more updates, it's printing time. Thanks for all the great catches and details you've found on here and in e-mail!
If you find anything further that's not quite right, please mail it directly to me at northing (at) gmail.com . It's too late to make the publication, but I want to keep track of any misses so we can keep an eagle eye out for them if they crop up again next year.
Hey North !!
I just sent K.P the last bit of info from my end of things. So it looks like the fursuit track is comming togther fast now ! I will send the confirm E Mails out as soon as the time slots are assigned. Its all starting to pull together, wont be long now. Shoot me a line if you need me to do anything else
Thanks everyone for your help in proofreading the Pocket Program! We'll be merging in these changes and have a final version available next week.
The Armstrong room listed in the program for Dr Gerbasi is really for Dr Roberts and it is a Speakers Corner (waiting approval from Uncle Kage) as one of the research projects (as you know all of the research projects must be approved both by U Waterloo ethics and Uncle Kage or his designee(s). At the Speaker's Corner people can make comments for posterity, research etc about the fandom and related topics. They will be given a copy of the project description, informed consent etc, prior to participating. The Speaker's Corner is an opportunity to video and audio taped sharing feelings about the fandom, for those to whom that might appeal.
The Annual Furry Survey will take place as usual on Thursday and Friday morning in the registration area and then at our Tables in the Dealers' room. It would be wonderful to have this corrected, I'd hate to see folks running over to Armstrong to try and return surveys. :scared: If they try and return surveys there we will not have appropriate prizes for them, nor sufficient staff to collect them there. MANY MANY thanks!!!DrG
Wait...there's no Pokemon furs meetup this year?
well it is all fan fun.if no one ofers to run one .then it wont happen
The write-up for Rhubarb & Cosmik has us in DLCC407, while the grid has us in DLCC 319-321. (I think. I did it by holding a ruler down on the monitor and lining up with the header, as the only left hand guide is on the start of each page, and I can't scroll that far across.)
I see the panel me and Big Paw will be doing made it to the pocket program. It reads...
Talkin’ Horse Sense with Big Paw & Salem Wolf
Friday 9.00 - 11.00p Big Paw, Salem Wolf DLCC 317
This will be a general open discussion for anyone who is a horse owner and rider
or for anyone who would be interested to learn what is involved in the care,
feeding and stabling of a horse or even owning one of their own. We have some
basic ideas on what topics to cover, but this being our first panel at Anthrocon
we’ll also be very interested in what the attendees would like to talk about here
Now I see the Fursuit Recess Games I'll be working in will be Friday from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and our panel is later that night starting at 9:00PM
Looks perfect...don't change a thing!
Edited to add:
P.S. Thanks Sharky for not only talking me into doing a panel on horses (on top of working the Fursuit Games) but somehow getting Big Paw in doing the panel as well.....still trying to figure out how you managed to get both of us talked into doing this!
See what a nice dinner can get you, a panel at the world's biggest furry convention !!
It was the dinner that did it then.....oh, now I remember. Nice Grubs they served there!
On p. 69, two panels are entitled "Characters and Dialogue". From the schedule grids it looks like the first one (on the list, which is actually second in time sequence) should be called "Plot and Structure". Also consider switching the order of these two to match the order they take place.
On p. 70, was it intentional that "Audience Participation Story Writing" has no description?
There is nothing for a Kangaroo meet up?
