Throughout the last few months of this year, I've had dreams of my grand trip to Anthrocon. Here they are (or what I can remember): The first dream was of me riding on my mother's car on June 24th, 2008. That's the day before our departure. The second dream was of the day we would leave for Anthrocon. But, I somehow ended up on a luggage cart rolling down the street away from the airport. The third dream was of June 22nd, 2008. That's three days before our trip. These dreams may be a good sign. The second dream is probably no big deal. --- UPDATE (01-07-08): I dream about Anthrocon yet again! We were at the airport getting ready to get on the plane to go to Anthrocon and this felt like the closest I ever go to Anthrocon in my subconcious. For some strange reason, we were going to attend the convention in Hawaii, not Pennsylvania. |

You remember the dates in your dreams?
My dreams usually run along the lines of showing up in Pittsburgh to be met by 3000 angry furries standing in front of a giant Target store sitting where the DLCC used to be.

permalinkI bet the sudden closure of the Adam's Splat...er...Adam's Mark is what prompts those dreams from you.
While I can really only imagine what that felt like, I'm quite sure that'd send me reeling for a while.
But hey, you can relax. The DLCC isn't going to go down that easily or quickly. It's not a shabby hotel down in the ghetto, it's a nice establishment that the entire city loves.
And if it does get turned into a Target, we'll just hold AC at your place. You can fit 2900 furs in your living room right?

Actually, it's the general stress and anxiety of running such an enormous event. I've got more than 100 people helping out, but in the end the responsibility for making sure everything operates smoothly is mine. That sort of pressure makes the mind do funny things during the periods that it is supposed to be relaxing.
I remember the very first one that I had. It was about a month before Anthrocon 1999. I was hurrying through the halls of the hotel, trying to make sure that everything was in order, and I found that every inch of the hotel corridors had been covered with the artwork that we prefer to keep in that private little corner of the Art Show. I was hurriedly running around picking them up before anyone saw them, and noticed that the big room that was going to serve as the Dealers' Room was being set up for some event that was not Anthrocon-related. I think that was the thing that finally jarred me awake.
I can summarize it this way, and it is true of every convention chairman. "In the weeks before the convention I sleep like a baby: I wake up screaming every two hours."

I can only imagine how much stress you gotta' go through, Uncle Kage. I'm surprised you're still remotely sane, after all these years.

You are a mad scientist, aren't you?
Anywho... I've not been getting any Anthrocon dreams as of recent. It's all about how I can struggle through my job to make the money I need for AC. Sleepless nights and long works days make for a no-happy-dream situation.
I hope this will change, soon. @_X I miss my dreams of furry goodness.

We have the original record at my house. If you turn it over, they actually have the song recorded backwards on Side B! Quite silly!
I wonder how much it's worth... hmmm...

AnthroCon Dreams....
Well, there was the one I had where my friend pulled up to my house in a large, white box truck. I got in, and he tells me we're going to AC. So I'm like "Sweet, let's roll." As we're going down the highway, I noticed something odd. Instead of heading for Pittsburgh, we were heading straight for Canada! I told my friend that we should do an immediate U-turn. He tells me "Oh, I want to grab something at Burger King." So I turn around to see if there was anything in the back to munch on... and I seen 4 PA speakers, a mixer, and a sign that read "SuperSponser Registration." I then turned to my friend. "Who's truck is this?" He tells me in a big grin, "Look in the rear-view mirror." So I did, and on the side of the truck, I seen the AC logo right on the side! "We're gonna get fwapped by Uncle Kage, aren't we?", he asked him. "Yup.", was all he said. Then I woke up. xD
So, Uncle Kage, if you notice a few extra miles on the truck's odometer, I had absolutely nothing to do with it. O_O
"They're coming to take me away haha. They're coming to take me away hoho hehe haha, to the happy farm, where life is beautiful all the time...." I'm going to have that stuck in my head for a while now. xDD

*CACKLE, CACKLE, CACKLE* That song was funny, Giz. Would the 'funny farm' be a furry convention?

Uh oh! Would the 'funny farm' be not a furry convention, but an insane asylum?

I didn't even know about that. I've never even been to Anthrocon before.

Amazingly enough, we have yet to dream of something awful like this happening with our truck:
(In case you're curious, it's a truck that got stuck under a bridge. I passed it on the way home from work today!)

Was that the same truck that crippled the DLCC underpass? @_X

Anthrocon 2008 is at least 170 days from now. I think the underpass will be fixed by then. Or, we can take a different route to the convention center.

That pic isn't from Pittsburgh, it's from the Philly area. I took it on my way home from work last evening. It just happened to be topical here.

That reminds me of why I don't tailgate trucks... I nearly had my car taken out last year when a truck with its top still coated in several inches of ice went under an overpass and all the ice was wiped off in one mammoth sheet. The ice literally came within an inch of my bumper.
I have interesting Anthrocon dreams. They never actually take place in the area or buildings Anthrocon is actually in. My brain conjures an entire imaginary location, often with exquisitely detailed interiors and many people who don't exist! Except Kage... he's always there... which make me suspicious. Did he implant something in my brain? >_>
Anyway, it's always the case in these dreams that I have forgotten something important.. usually my suitcase, once was my car! Yes, I actually dreamed I walked all the way there and only then realized, "Hey! I should have brought my car!" Stupid subconscious... >.<

The only dream I've ever had of Anthrocon was a nightmare even though last year's AC was one of the best experiences of my life.
I was with my friends and we decided to go to the dealer's room, so me and my friend Akina started to walk through the hotel. And we ran into my other friend Kale, and her and her other friends went down some elevator or something... and me and Akina went to follow them. And then I got trapped in that scary horror-movie like narrow staircase in the Westin. And then Akina went into this room. Where... apparently everyone was betting on how fast these mice could run. x_x. And then I was waiting for her, but I heard her scream and then... saw her start to walk out of the room covered in blood... and she was a zombie. :[
And then slowly I found out all of my friends were turning into zombies.
And in a typical horror movie victim fashion I ran up the stairs.
Oh. My dad was there, too, which might have been the scariest part. My dad at Anthrocon? Ahh! He was a zombie, too, by the way.

You seem to have some deep-seated fear of the undead. Were you abused by a zombie as a child? Not all zombies are bad, they're just misunderstood.

I think I just don't like things that come out of the ground voluntarily.
What's up with that?

I pity the people that have to take a plane or even just a long car ride to the AC. It's only about 45 min. away from me.

I've only had one Anthrocon dream that I can remember.
I was at the con, being hosted in a different hotel for some reason, scooting about lazily on my stomach atop a floating innertube, the halls lined with furries talking, drawing, whatever. At some point I wound up floating about town completely drunk. I met up with Mythbuster hosts Jamie and Adam in a parking lot, they asked if didn't have someplace better to be and I replied "Yeah, I'm supposed to be at Anthrocon" and I floated up, up and away over a building, giggling drunkenly.

I've actually had the occasional dream and fear of waking up and so pumped to run outside and run around with all the furries that I forget myself to put my fursuit on and so... I'm running around half naked in my pajama's.
Then the fact where I'm on my way to Anthrocon and I get lost and end up in some other state.
