Due to popular demand, both from our attendees and from the local businesses, we have made another run of the "Rocking Pittsburgh" shirt that debuted last year, with the artwork of the inimitable Tani da Real. This shirt was commissioned on behalf of the city itself, meaning that Pittsburgh is the one who sells the shirt, not us! Thus, it is not available from the Anthrocon convention store, and can only be purchased from the local businesses that carry it.

So where do you find it? Here are the merchants who are stocking it this year:

PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: Hudson News in Concourse A and Concourse C, and the CNN Store in Concourse D.

DOWNTOWN ("dahntahn"): Westin Convention Center Hotel gift shop, 1000 Penn Ave; Courtyard by Marriott gift shop, 945 Penn Ave.; Hampton Inn gift shop, 1247 Smallman St; Marriot City Center gift shop, 112 Washington Place; Downtown Pittsburgh Welcome Center, 120 Fifth Ave.

If you live in Pittsburgh or intend to get there early, you've got a special surprise coming: the shirts are available starting now! This was at the request of the vendors and we were happy to oblige. We are hoping that they ordered enough to keep them going through the convention and we'll do our best to keep them stocked, but we can't guarantee how many will be available for sale this year.

I saw these shirts floating around last year, but had no idea where they got them. I figured it was a sponsor thing. Now that I know I definitely plan on getting one.

It is up to each merchant what they wish to charge; I believe our MSRP is $20.

Great news! I managed to get one in the rush last year but had friends who missed out, so it's good to see it back again.

...Damn...when I first heard of a 'Rocking Pittsburgh' T-shirt I was not impressed by the idea, but after seeing the design and hearing that Tani made it Im actually tempted...I dont suppose thats the shirt we supersponsors are getting free this year?

No, it is not the shirt Supersponsors will get.  As explained last year, the merchants of Pittsburgh wanted to get involved as well.  The Board of Directors agreed and came up with this idea.  Basically what's happening here is that Anthrocon is 'leasing' its trademark (service mark?) of "Anthrocon" for a small fee and the local merchants make a donation to the charity for that year.  That way, they don't violate Anthrocon's trade/service mark and Anthrocon gets more money for the charity...and more support from local merchants.

That said, if you want one, Kage has told you where you can get one.  Based on last year, they will not be available in the Dealers Room or Con Store.

Our best recommendation is to make a friend who is in Pittsburgh now, or will be for Anthrocon. We do not have plans to sell these in our online Con Store at this time.

I got one last year.  It's a really cool t-shirt.  I remember they sold out of those t-shirts the Wednesday before the con started, before more t-shirts came in stock, and I thought I wasn't gonna be able to get one.  I was like "No fair!  I haven't even arrived in Pittsburgh, yet!"  But I still managed to buy one when the next set of t-shirts came.

AHA! SO IT WAS YOU!!!

I arrived Thursday morning, was registered and ensconced in my room at the Omni by 11am, immediately checked at the news counter/gift shop...and was told that they had already sold out...*Curses!*

I will probably have to check out the news stand shop at the airport, then; the Omni William Penn wasn't included in UncleKage's list for this year.

I'm curious to know if ANY non-furries buy the shirt. I suppose that figure is impossible to track without first hand knowlegde, but it'd still be an interesting stat.

The hotels are not selling them right now. They all were told not to sell them till AC time...is there a miscommunication?

I would call first and make sure they will definitely be available.  Anything related to Anthrocon could be considered "seasonal" merchandise.  The sellers may not want to use up their display space for the shirts until a point closer to the convention.

IOW, "We can't sell them yet" may be a business decision, not a miscommunication.

Yeah, was kind of a bit dissappointed when the kid at the Westin was like, "Well I can't sell these..." As he was showing me them. The other four places either didn't have them or didn't want to sell them until closer.

I liev by the airport, but won't be there till the 30th.

That's the whole idea!  We adopted the city's colors as our own.  It's not just any yellow, either.  It's Spanish Yellow!  That's 20% cooler than any other kind of yellow.

I know the first thing I'm doing once I get off the plane in Pittsburgh!  Claiming my luggage and making sure everything is there.  Then buying a shirt!

From what I remember of the Pittsburgh airport, you may want to reverse that.  You'll probably pass the stores selling the shirt long before you reach baggage claim which, IIRC, is at the other end of a People-Mover type train... and possibly on the other side of a river.

See http://www.pitairport.com/terminal_maps for more details.  Basically it's a long hike from the plane to the Airmall section and then the people mover to baggage check...

Ah, I see.  Thanks for the heads up!  Although I do tend to wander a lot, if I can avoid it, I'm happier.  Ooh, and a map! I love maps!  (It's a old over from when I was in the Army, I guess.)

I believe that the T-shirt vendors who consistently deal at fannish conventions privately refer to the 2XL size as a "Fannish Regular"...

...perhaps the Westin and the Hampton have caught on?

Erf!  Nobody has ordered shirts larger than 3X, I fear!  Anthrocon stocks our annual shirt in sizes 4X and 5X, but the city vendors haven't caught on yet.

Actually, I felt a little bad about that, so I called the Doubletree (who has just put in an order for additional shirts) and asked if they would stock some 4X's. They will have four of them on hand, starting Tuesday or Wednesday. I can't guarantee how long they'll stay in stock, but at least there's a fighting chance. If you want to head up there Wednesday, or perhaps call their gift shop in advance, you'll have the best shot at getting one in your size.
