Any Photographers?
|
Got any furry photographers out there? While I may be no professional photographer, I like to make my interest more of a hobby- like my graphic design field. Just curious to see if there are any other furs that share the same interests (and from what I have seen there are some other photographers here). I don't have an incredible arsenal of equipment, but it is just the right amount for me. After all, it's more about the pleasure of taking pictures, and you don't really need all the top-grade equipment to be purchased. You already have the best tool of all: your imagination. My new camera that replaced my Canon Rebel XTi that bit the dust: ...and along with this is my handy little Sony Cybershot for those moments when my SLR camera is out of reach. This is my first year coming to AC, so I hope I get some great pictures. Basically, if you see a wolf running around frantically with a camera, then you won't have to second guess it's probably me. |

I like to take pictures of things, but I question my photographic skills.
Anyway, my stuff is up on Flickr if you'd like to have a look: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmuth/

Nice setup! I do some amateur photography, mostly nature shots, but I have a pretty good assortment. I have a Canon Powershot, which is pretty badass for a point-and-shoot, I want to get an SLR one of these days though.
I'm not 1337 enough for a Flickr account, but I have a website: http://www.lupinia.net/photo/

I love to take pictures, but I don't have a fancy camera. I like to take pics of the great outdoors and other stuff. I have some pics in my FA account. It's under "wolfinboots". I also have a Flickr account under Raider_Wolf. I don't have that many there tho. Just me in my werewolf costume.

permalinkI brought my Sony Alpha to the con last year. I brought the 18-70 zoom and some of my older Minolta 35mm lenses as well. (70-210mm Zoom, 28mm, 500mm).
I found it was a huge hassle for (unfortunately) little result in my case. Much of what happens at Anthrocon is transient: there one second and gone the next. By the time I got my camera set, there was nothing to photograph.
I'd suggest bringing only one lens: that way, you're less loaded down and not tempted to try another lens and lose the shot completely. Of the three lenses you list, I'd go with the 50-200 zoom. It has a good range and is a pretty fast lens.
Another suggestion: use the SLR in set-piece situations. That is, use it in places/times when you will be able to concentrate on the action involved. Things like Uncle Kage's Story Hour, 2's Rant, Q&A with the Guests of Honor (or Okay, in this case), the Masquerade and the Fursuit Parade. Keep the Cybershot handy at all other times. From my experience (such as it is), it will probably get a lot more use than the SLR.
As always, YMMV.

True; the less to carry the better. Usually I travel with my 50-200mm and 14-42mm (I'm fairly quick to interchange lenses), lens hood, and backup equipment on a belt pack no problem. But likewise, a backup point-and-shoot camera is always a handy tool to have with only a few seconds to react. Then comes the scheduling plans during the convention and tasks... ooh, so much to do beforehand.

Well Wolf-running-with-camera, meet Bat-flitting-with-same.
I have a little digital camera that takes pretty darn good pictures for the amateur photos I tend to take, mostly nature or candid photos.
Sony Cybershot (digital)
Zeiss/Tessar lens
6 Megapixels
1000 ISO sensitivity
Basically around 400 shots or so on one go, if the battery lasts long enough.
I'll be running around with it the whole time too, and most likely having to duck onto my laptop from time to time to upload them onto the computer to clear the memory card.

permalinkI'm really looking forward to do a lot of photo stuff this year, as I've finally finished putting together my rig:
Nikon D200 w/ MB-D200 vertical grip
Nikkor 18-200VR f3.5-5.6
SB-600 Speedlight
I wont bother bringing any other lenses except maybe my 50mm f/1.8 for portraits and such.
The fursuit parade was a disaster for me last year cause I had a cheapo flash and it died on me half way through, I'm hoping this year will work out better
I really look forward to meeting more photografurs this year, seeing someone holding a camera is a great way to just get a conversation going.
