Plan X (as I named it that cause it sounds neat. xD), is the last resort to securing my room at The Westin Hotel. As informed by the great scientist himself, the hotle is pretty much booked solid. This only hieghtens my concerns for reservation security. So, as my las effort goes into action, I am forced to sending cash to the hotel. I understand that there is a great risk involved with such a manuver, but there has been a few key issues that have lead me to such actions.

1.) I called up The Westin Hotel the other day, only to find out that they do NOT accept money order transactions, such as those from Western Union.

2.) I do not have a credit card, nor do I want one for personal reasons.

3.) I don't own a bank account, so writing a check is out of the question.

I am basically doing this whole trip out of my pocket, but I am very glad to have a friend along with me to help out in rough times. And I thank everyone here for their supprt in this matter as well. But nonetheless, I will be attending Anthrocon, as I did last year.

If you are determined to send cash, then for goodness's sake, make sure to send it via Registered Mail.

A lot of places sell debit gift cards... I think Wallymart does. You just buy them and pay a fee over the price on purchase, but at least you won't have anyone taking your cash.

Personally, I don't use cash very often, just credit cards. In 10 years I would be surprised if cash still exists. IMHO

Are you really dead-set against getting a US Postal Service Money Order?
The Westin's accepted mine the past 2 years...

I'd like to thank everyone for reading this.

Registered Mail, and US Postal Service Money orders are two things I will definately look into. As for the prepaid debit cards, the only one I know is from American Express. I'm not too secure on that one, since they said in the Terms & Conditions that I could buy stuff on the internet, but found out the hard way I couldn't. So I'm not certain on how The Westin Hotel will agree to accepting such payment. But I will call in and find out. Again, I thank you all very much. ^^

A USPS Money Order is VERY easy to get.
You walk into a Post Office, see a clerk, and request a money order for the
amount you want. They will charge you something like 1 dollar, and you will
get the money order. Then you fill everything out carefully
(making sure you put the Westin's info as "payable to" and yourself as
"paid from" and not the other way around),
carefully remove the receipt, and then mail it to them,
either Registered Mail or Priority Mail, or Express Mail.
(I've never had a problem with a money order sent any of those ways,
and you can send it out at the post office once you make it out.
CASH is the thing to worry about mailing.)

Then you wait 2-3 weeks, then phone the Westin, and leave a message
for them to look up your stuff and call you back. That may only
take 2 minutes, so don't go too far.

or there's always the route of trying to find someone who has a reservation in the Westin already, and then just trying to room with them. Hotel rooms become much cheaper with larger quantities of people sharing a room. Call it operation last minute friends....

But it is a rather silly idea I admit.

I thank you everyone for the generous help given. Though my mother (god bless her heart), used her credit card to secure the room with a 1 night's stay payment. I, of course, gave her the cash after. xD So therefore, I am now sitting back, fully relaxed with a Pepsi in my hand, knowing that I have a room secured. Anthrocon, here I come!

....After I get the bus tickets. >_< I don't think UncleKage has the time, gas, and patience to drive out to Massachussettes just to come get both me, and my friend...... unless I offer a round of the finest saki on me. Eye-wink

Yes, I'm bad at sucking up. xD; Anywho, hope to see everyone there! ^_^

Unless she's coming and staying in the room, remember to have enough cash on-hand upon
arriving to cover the cost of the room and "sundries" (possible phone use, pay-per-view, etc), from which you'll get back whatever you didn't spend.

Normally, if there's no card in your hand when you arrive, I think they ask for the
money up-front. Alternately, you can mail the money order NOW and include your
reservation confirmation# in the memo line.

To Avoid the debit card debacle (deposit they charge to your card upon checkin that doesnt necesarilly get removed imediattely upon checkout, thus leaving you with that amount "flagged" in your bank account and unusable till your bank clears it) I have been paying cash up-front upon check-in, and so far they have been kind enough to waive the sundries "movie charges, room service, etc" deposit upon an assurance from myself that none will be used or requested!!

What kind of sake are we talking about?

If it's the same kind I gave you last con, you might pick him up. Evil

Turns out that it was sake made by Buddhist monks. I believe K.P. said that the kanji on the box should have been translated as "For external use only."

It wasn't bad. It was just potent!

I suspect the monks have used that for centuries to reach Nirvana.

or at the very least a long way from sobriety.

Now you know why the Buddha is always smiling...

(Note: I didn't say it was bad. I quoted K.P. [IIRC] when I said it was for external use only.)

For External Use Only..... Wow, that must have been some powerful stuff. xD

And as for the Sake... Does a little Junmai Daiginjo suit your taste, or would Daiginjo suffice? Sticking out tongue I talked to my friend's father, who works at a local bar here in my town. After I had mentioned the two, he looked at me like I had more than one head. o.o

As for The Westin Hotel, with the security deposit in place, my friend and I will pay for the other nights' stay up front, cash. We'll then pay for any ammenities we have used, such as raiding the snack frigde, after we check out. Though a quick note to Westin personnel... You might want to double-stock that fridge once we both get there. xDDD Anywho, I pretty much have everything under control........ I hope.

And on a final note, I'd like to say hi to Ahote Wolf. ^_^ Love the video on Youtube, and your MySpace page. =D

If you're paying with cash up front, the hotel will ask for a deposit of (usually) $50 per night to cover just such additional expenses. If you don't use it all, it'll be refunded when you check out.

And junmai daiginjo is my preferred! "Daiginjo" alone has ethanol added. Some people say it "brings out more subtle flavors." I disagree.
