First Fursuit. (update)
|
Okay let me first say that I don't sew, build, or do any sort of crafting normally, but I got bored + motivated and really wanted to try making a partial on my own. The head is not quite finished yet (as in I think I'm going to replace the eyes and everything is not sewn/glued down yet). Just thought I'd post a pic or two, see what people think. Excuse the messy desk. EDITS: Well I did a little remodeling of the head...okay well a lot. I got some better fabric with longer fur, and made me some pawpaws. Changed the eyeballs (they're sunglasses lenses) and put canine teeth in the mouth there. He's also sportin some cool shades, though it's a bit hard to see through two sets of sunglasses so I'm not sure I'll continue to wear them. I'm not sure if that tongue is going to stay like that or not. xD |

For a first fursuit, I'd say this is pretty impressive, considering the immense difficulties one has to face.

Two suggestions(Als, it looks great for a first head)
get a dremmel and dremmel the insides of the eyes a bit, or shave them down with a razor a bit more because they're kindof nicked and its pretty noticable
second, on some of the areas where you can see glue or foam underneath(Or whatever those small white lines are?) get a permanent marker in black and go over them just to keep colour coherency. Shouldnt take more than ten minutes in all. :<> Good job.

permalinkThanks!
I'm actually thinking of getting some tighter weave mesh and just painting on the eyes, the foam I used gets creased after putting on/taking off the head a bunch of times. I'll definately find a marker and go over the white parts (I'm a bit messy with the glue gun, so that's most of what that is).
Thanks for the advice ^-^

Make sure that the paint (and the glue for that matter) is waterproof. I've a friend who found that the ink he used on his suit's eyes was not water resistant, and in the humid environment inside the suit's head the ink began to bleed.

cheapo tempra paint is waterproof, just the generic stuff at joannes or something, and if you thin it a little with water, paints over mesh nicely. Good luck!

permalinkfor my suits eyes i used foamies,to make them water proof i used elmers glue to coat the foamies, i just painted it on, tho u need to paint at least 2-3 coats on. then i painted the iris the color i wanted, once that dried i coated it in glue once more then poof! water proof eyes!XD

Second head is lookin' WAY better.
Suggestion for the tongue- use green felt. Its soft and moves really well, unlike foam. Also it looks better, I think. Just take two pieces and reverse stitch them :3 Or, hell, take one piece and glue the edges down.

permalinkI may consider that. The foam does look a bit blah. I'll definately do some more minor alterations before June.
Thanks again ^-^

I like everything...but the eyes. They bother me a bit. I guess they need some work done. You know, for future reference window screen if you know where to get it, is a really decent mesh to use for the eyes.
Clean the eyes up a bit(I like the suggestions of other people here) and your head will look "GGGRrreat!"
I wish I had suggestions to add as per cleaning up the eyes but I don't do toony eyes with my fursuit heads. So I don't have experience with them. I prefer to order taxidermy eyes but that's just my preference.
