This past week I've been working on building a fursuit, and I was going to add following eyes to it, buit I have no idea how to do that or what materials I need, ._.; None of the fursuiting sites really give a good, clear description. So, yeah,... if you know how to make the 3D eyes, please tell me. |

Yay! Another MA furry. ^_^
I have seen people use styrofoam cups to aid in the construction of 3D eyes. They give off the illusion that if you turn your head a certain way, the other person would think you were still looking at them.
Another might be the "bubble eye" technique. I seen this at last year's AC, during a fursuit construction panel. Artists that do a lot of painting will at times use a tray to hold their paints while they work. The trays are like little platters with concave sections, so that the paint does not become mixed up. If using this technique, it is strongly recommended you use the clear tray for visual purposes. These can be found at most hobby shops, and paint stores.
Hope that helps. ^_^

permalinklook for my other post and watch my FA site for a little while. I'm currently working up tutorials on heads while working on my friends head.
I use the top part of 2ltr soda bottles for my eyes. But the process is kinda hard to explain, much easier to show.
and heck - if you need help in foam heads - that tutorial is up right now. next will be furring, then the last will be eyes and detail. Heck - if you live close enough I never mind having people come over to work on suits. It's wayyy easier then anything to show people in person. maybe we could all have a day :3 my friend and I are nice enough!

permalinkThat's a pretty darned comprehensive link. A fursuit builder friend suggested to look at the livejournal fursuit section in 'memories' to find tips on that feature. Beetlecat actually built a head with them, she might be an excellent place to start.

If I had known there were this many furs in MA, I would have set up a small con of our own. ^^ We should all get together sometime. :3 And yes, that is indeed a helpful link posted. Though the main suit I'll try to build myself, the feet, paws, and ears I'm going to have to have someone else make.
And on another note, I have just recieved word that the government has passed a bill saying that citizens will recieve $600 back in taxes in May. So this trip is pretty much been paid for. ^_^ But I still need to get the bus tickets earlier. x_x

Is it just me, or is there a certain touch of fun in this being posted to the message borad of a con that used to be centered in albany? *grin*
I mean, ok, i know, uber-upstate new york is not the same as massachusetts, but still...
Maybe it's just because i spent a lot of time in the southwest corner of vermont, where travel to albany and to portions of massachusetts was a pretty frequent occurrence.

At any given moment I can summon at LEAST 30 MA local furs. I've seen up to 60 with advanced notice. I'm guessing there are several hundred in the greater Boston/MA/NH/RI area.

permalinkUhh, Bus? what's your schedule for the con? I usually drive out a few days before and come back on monday, its only an 8 or 10 hour drive. Chip in for gas, grab a shower and all that before the trip
and no feets on the dash! Arrive in Continental style, or PSD dually depending on folks bringing fursuits. Sucky part is that the truck doesn't fit in the hotel parking lot. Have to park down the way a bit. And while it did migrate to Albany for a bit, it started as a fur splinter group of the famous Philcon sci-fi convention, Furtasticon, Confurence East for a couple revs then over to Albany!

Panzier, with us living right on 495, travel wouldn't be a hassle. I'd love to tag along, but hope you don't mind I got a friend with me. ^^ That PSD Dually sure sounds sweet. =D My cousin has one of those, and it'd sure beat taking a bus. We'll definately help out in the funding for gas as well. ^_^ I'd have a sore tail after having been sitting on a bus for 18 hours. x.x
As for scheduling. my friend and I will be taking the bus Wednsday, June 25 from the Foxboro/Mansfield bus station around 5-5:30 PM. We won't be knocking on the Westin's door, unit Thursday, 12 PM. June 30, we both hit Check-out. Still working on a schedule for that.
Hope that helps. ^^

If you are not looking for the toon eye effect you can always order taxidermy eyes. You can get a semi-follow me effect with those eyes (with proper placing) so long as you get the larger eyes (try 26 to 30 mil), with large pupils. It's really the pupil that gives the illusion that the eyes are following you.

permalinkI've always wondered, how do fursuiters see out from behind things like the taxidermy eyes? Drill a hole or something?

The answer to your question Vasiberianhusky....is that the eyes are positioned on a screen so that they don't block the person's version. It's all the placement....the human eyes will be in one corner looking out, and the taxidermy eyes are placed outside the area.
