Light Sabers, Staffs and so on...

Some thing that was a issue last year that I wanted to bring up for this year. At the dance every one wants to show off and when the union guys don't move enough chairs every one is bunched in together on the dance floor, making the use of staffs and their like unsafe.

In years long past the dances offered a stage for people to show off on without being in the way of every one else, giving them a clear space and a high point for photos.

I know at our current location a stage is out but, would it be possible for there to be a area in the dance room which is roped off or other wise cleared so that people wishing to use light sabers or staffs while dancing can do so without having to worry about people dancing into them?

There really isn't any good way to allow people up on the stage.

Please don't assume the problem lies with the union, just are doing what the dance staff has told them to do given the budgets of time and money.

We do allow people to carefully do staff and robe work in the corners and back of the room as long as we, your security staff, have approved the device being swung around, feel the person doing the swinging is competent enough to keep the thing in control and the crowd is being aware. This is still a very iffy proposition.

We will not hesitate to stop the swinging if we feel it is getting unsafe for any reason. Our experience has been the most people who want to swing away with there staffs and sabers and ropes are not as spiffy at as they think they are.

But even if we had the entire floor of the ballroom cleared there still wouldn't be enough room to inner mix dancers and staff swinging.
