I vaguely recall reading one time, somewhere, that a dealer could only have an assistant with them if they were in charge of a whole table (or more.)
The logic behind this was that there are two chairs behind each table, and there aren't allowed to be more than two chairs behind each table. So one could only have an assistant if they were the only one at the table.

It's possible this is not true at all, because a vague recollection is not a very good source...
And that is why I'm posting!

Is this true? Or can someone with a half table also have an assistant as long as they don't mind the space and breathing-room restrictions involved with having three people at a table? (provided the assistant fills out their tax form and follows the rules, etc.)

...

And also, the new tax form... I filled one of the old ones out and mailed it in in the beginning of November, the same time i sent in my dealer's packet - and i still haven't heard back from them about it. Now that i have my table assignment, i only have so much time before that gets forfeited if i don't provide a number. Should i fill out one of the new ones, or would that only complicate things?

I was a dealer in 2005, but i don't remember what my number was... and so this time i signed up for a tax license as a first-time vendor. Is it possible this might throw a wrench between their gears?

...

And that's it, for now! Thanks. ...Apologies for my semi-long-windedness.

From the dealers packet http://www.anthrocon.org/dealerpack
Under section II. Obtaining a table.
Subsection D “assistance”
“Half-table dealers may not have assistants; there is no room behind the table.”

I don’t know what the current situation is with the tax license applications. I’m sure someone will come along sooner or later to help you.
OR
You could e-mail your inquiry to dealers-2008(at)anthrocon.org
Make sure to check the FAQ first to ensure your question hasn’t already been answered.

Ah! Thanks. I looked in the FAQ to try and find my answer before posting this, but didn't see it. I didn't think to look in the dealer's packet itself though... I reckon that's probably where my vague recollection was born. Smiling

If you haven't heard back from the Department of Revenue, you need to contact them directly. We have no way of checking for you.

In 90% of the cases, they have processed the application, but haven't gotten around to actually telling you that. If you call them, they'll be able to tell you right off what your tax number is. After that, you're likely to receive 3 copies of your tax license certificate in rapid succession.

And yes, a half-table is 3 feet of linear space. There's simply no way to fit 2 people comfortably behind a table with that amount of space without things getting severely crowded.

And your icon frightens me.
