Where is a good place to meet up with my friends?
|
Since Anthrocon covers so much acreage, it can be a challenge to pre-arrange a meeting spot with your friends for dinner or whatnot. We do not recommend people meet in the hotel lobby. It's not that big and it needs to be kept clear for traffic flow. Here are some places that you might consider for a meeting place. The Zoo: Allegheny Ballrooms II and III, 3rd floor of the Westin. Can also be a bit crowded! The West Corner of the Park: Outdoor turfed patio, 3rd floor of the DLCC near the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom (aka the “South Terrace”). There is an indoor sitting area adjacent to it, as well. Noresco Riverside Terrace: Outdoor terrace overlooking the river, 3rd floor of the DLCC. North Terrace: 4th floor of the DLCC (with the amazing blue scrolling novel!) We also recommend checking out the free Twitter service. It can be updated from a cellphone or IM and updates can also be sent to cellphones and IM. This is a potentially useful tool when trying to find out what your friends are up to while traveling. |

Suggestion for the DLCC people: doors that are alarmed should be so tagged. I noticed the scrolling text, and wanted to go outside to get a closer look at it, but when I opened the door (on the third floor hallway between the escalators and the ballroom), it started beeping, so I quickly gave up on that idea, and was too gun-shy to even think about trying to get outside elsewhere
Ron, wonders what the point of that scrolling text is other than the "look what we can do" factor...

permalinkI think most of the scrolling text was merely 'greeking'
without a real message, was snazzy using the persistance
of vision to make up neat messages!

I am told that it is actually a pair of real novels that are scrolling past.

Ron brought up something I've been meaning to ask; are there any doors leading to the 4th floor terrace that aren't set to alarms? I read the recommendation to check it out, but last year every door I found started setting off an alarm every time it was opened, so I'm wondering if there was a set of "correct" doors to go through, or if I got it mixed up with another section of the convention center.

Yes. The doors near rooms 406 and 407 do not have alarms on them. We are still allowed to go up onto the terrace through any of the other doors. The alarm is there simply to let Security know that someone's up there. It's part of the Center's fire safety plan.
