Whoever said that the process of using DTD (Duct Tape Dummies) needs to be bonked upside the head... Horrible experience to go through. X.X
It's fun when you first start out... but getting it off is the worse part EVER!
The cutting and the pain and possible cuts on your skin from trying to get it off...
I'm hoping my DTD will last for more than just 2 fursuits... I don't plan on making another any time soon. x.x

Anyways... For my DTD it took about 2 rolls of DTD (I am a very small person, still had a lot of the 2nd roll left) and took about 6 hours getting it on, cut off, and then taped back together so it wasn't falling apart to destruction... The relief of once the DTD is off is amazing...
You never know leg pain until you've stand for over 5 hours putting a DTD together lol.

Well if there is any other "better" way to get this accomplished for the fact of the builder needing the exact size of the fursuiter so that they can build on it. Please do tell..
If there is no other way.. Looks like I have to go through more pain yay!

Lol...

I actually had my friend help me out doing this... I could barely move and had lots of restrictions... There was no bending of the body... Though having something to hold on with my arms spread out worked quite nice so that I wouldn't be in much pain from staying still as possible.
It's scary getting the thing cut off you, and a bit painful. I had lots of scratches after this. (Also if anyone is in need of help and wants to do a DTD I could help as much as possible too.) Feel free to ask any questions. ^.^

Did you get the right kind of scissors, I did mine back in October. My friend only had to cut it a little bit for me to get out. I'm 5'4' and took 2 and a half rolls of duct tape. I had a blast. I bought my friends some pizza and we had a great time. They cut it a little in the waist so I can squeeze out. Better luck next time.

I'm 5'1 so it took 2 rolls, and not even the second roll was used up half way. The scissors could cut it, I had a blast laughing my butt off when I was getting it on.. Just the taking off part wasn't so much as fun. >.<

Thats what turned me away from commissioning some suit makers. Then you have to mail it off. I'm quite sure the makers who do want DTD can do just as good a job by going with measurements. Unless you want the body suit to be 100% snug against your body, I don't see the need.

My suit was built based on measurements and it turned out great!

I have done this before and there was no pain involved at all. So I have to ask the question... "You didn't put the duct tape directly on your skin, did you?"

Something that is obvious to those with experience may not be obvious to somebody who has never done it before... duct tape on bare skin can hurt! For an entire body dummy, a cheap pair of tights and a leotard works well, you simply slip the scissors underneath the fabric and cut. Yes, they are ruined by the process, that is why you use the cheapest ones you can find. For torso only, an old T-shirt works just fine. Gummed paper tape also works for making dummies and makes a stiffer one than duct tape does.

Some people wrap the duct tape too tight and they REALLY need to work the scissors in to get it off.

Also, they're unecissary unless you A: Are getting a skintight suit, or B: Are getting a SUPER padded foam suit.

I do believe she's going for skintight.

Then depending on the skill of the craftsman, a DTD would be required, or at least very helpful :3 Lawd knows how they do it without one.

Ohh... shall I tell my experience with my first DTD?

This was not but two weeks ago. Feeling that I had all of the sufficient training that I needed, as well as an experienced DTD-er, I bit the bullet.

Everything was going reasonably well, until the removal. The medical scissors that I had were too dull, and we switched to a shorter, sharper pair of scissors.

... be warned. What you are about to read may be unsettling.

It not only sheered through my clothes, but on complete accident, left a 1-inch gash in my side. We made the mistake of going to a pair of scissors with pointy ends. Don't do this!

Fortunately, my wound was not serious enough to require stitches.

Other than that, the most uncomfortable experience in doing a DTD I'd have to say is your limited amount of movement.

Make sure to use the restroom before doing the DTD, too. You *will* have to wait. Eye-wink

Ouch >.< that does sound painful and yes xD I knew from the start I had to go to the bathroom before getting in that thing, I actually managed to go up and down the flight of stairs when my legs (not knees) were taped up and still have the default of limited movement xD I felt like I had a cast on both of my legs.

who needs stitches when you can use superglue? Smiling Regular works, but its usually recommended to use medical grade. Doesn't matter wether you use synth fiber for stitches, it still opens the possibility to infection.
