You can try http://www.expedia.com and try finding a Cheaper Hotel Price for those who are on Budget always try to Buddy up with someone too if you can. IE do a Room Share and Have you and the other Fur Split the Hotel Price in half. |

Expedia won't get you any cheaper rates at our convention hotels. You can find cheaper lodgings, but you will be miles away from the convention center.
A roomshare is your best bet. Or wait until we have a contract secured with the Doubletree (which should be early in the upcoming week). $119 per night for a hotel just 2 blocks from the convention center won't be beat, not by Expedia or anyone else.

it might not get anthrocon rates. But I was just Providing people with another Option for Hotels so if they want to go they can still be able to by getting a hotel cheap and only a couple to few miles away. They wold have to drive to anthrocon or get Public access transportation.

We really try to encourage conventiongoes to stay in the hotels where we have set up room blocks. From our FAQ:
In other words, we arrange the rates at the nearby hotels based on the promise that people will stay in those rooms. If people choose not to stay in those rooms, then that is their choice and we certainly appreciate their wanting to save money. But then we are left with the bill for the unfilled rooms, and Anthrocon goes away.

I understand this point, myself - I've heard Darrel Exline explain it enough, in dealing with ConFURence - but I would suggest that you might wish to make a separate topic posting explaining that particular detail (or noose), as I bet that most of the attendees do not know about it, let alone understand it.

It is usually not a concern. It only becomes a worry when someone announces, "Hey, there's a hotel next door selling rooms at $29 a night!" and 400 rooms empty out at our primary hotels.
This is why I put the little poll up on our Livejournal community to try to get a feel for the demand for an additional room block. It seems that there's enough demand to warrant one, so we're going to secure one at the Doubletree. It's still cheaper than any Expedia price for nearby hotels, and anyone who stays far enough out to get a cheaper rate will wind up paying more in gas, tolls, and parking.

I only said this, So if there Were No more Rooms Left at the hotels Anthrocon had contracts with. People might find some other hotels that could be cheap and still close by instead of those people not going to Anthrocon

Maybe for Anthrocon of 09 you could try getting more rooms and see about getting cheaper rates too. If possible.

Based on how much space we take up at our current size, the DLCC could easily accommodate about 17,000 furries. The ballroom, though, can only handle a maximum of about 2000, so we'd have to try to think of some other way to let folks see the Ranting Gryphon perform.

permalinkAt 17,000 attendees, perhaps the budget would allow for large projector screens in other rooms and a live video feed from the SOP ballroom? Or perhaps something along the lines of what FC does, and have live video feed into a specific channel into hotel rooms.

I think at that point, the con would get to use one of the convention halls for giant events of doom like that...Or 2 could put on multiple shows
