Small Arms Illustration Panel: Interest?

My friend Beowulf Kennedy and I have been considering running a panel at this year's AnthroCon on the topic of how to draw firearms. They appear quite often in artwork around the fandom, and it's something that a lot of artists seem to struggle with drawing. We were pretty gung-ho about putting this on, but now I'm wondering if there's really any interest in this panel. So, if you're a furry artist and are interested in a panel that covers the following topics, then please post in this thread:

•Proper gun handling and firearm safety
--This short section would cover a few rules to follow when drawing characters with firearms, such as appropriate safety procedures a gun-savvy character would follow and some shooting stances/grips.

•Technical information about firearms
--Basic technical information about how firearms work so that you can create your own feasible fictional designs and better understand the operation of modern designs.

•How to make it look good
--Tips and tricks on how to draw firearms either from your own imagination or photo references.

Obviously, if there's no interest, KP won't give us a room or time slot for it and we won't be all that enthused about trying to get those things, either. And even if there is interest, the fact that the panel involves the topic of firearms means that it will have to go before the AnthroCon board before it makes it into the programming. So if you want to see this at AnthroCon, please speak up.

It's not so "obvious" to me that a panel with little or no interest on the
MESSAGEBOARDS would translate into "empty room" or "no space on the program."

When I started doing the LARP, some people posted they were interested. Other than the
Narrator, NONE of them showed up-those who DID show up read about it in the program
and just walked in.

The first year a panel on therianthropy was done, there was NO discussion, IIRC, on
the messageboard, and the panel's name didn't mention therianthropy. It was given a
100-seat room, and we overflowed it pretty neatly, with people along the walls and
sitting on the floor in front.

I think they might give you a SMALLER room, but I see no reason to think they'd
flat refuse you. (Of course, I'm not them, and there may be a perfectly-legitimate
reason to refuse you that we didn't discuss. My OPINION is just an OPINION, and not
even that of an official.)

I could see discussion if a panel involved subjects deemed unsuitable for
minors, and had to be relegated to a late night slot.

However, AC doesn't want the presence of REAL firearms, or PROPS of weapons
in any way, shape, or form. If a panel involves DISCUSSING them in a tasteful fashion
(not just "doesn't AC suck for not allowing them?"), or DRAWING them, I don't think
there's a reason to suppose they're going to object.
Of course, they may object anyway, whether or not I'd THINK they would.

For all I know, each and every proposed event might have to go before the board
of directors before it's approved for placement. (No, I don't think they have to
tell us how they do it. I wouldn't, if I were on the board.)

I'm new at this, so you're probably right about they'll give us something if they have the room/time available in the schedule regardless of expressed interest on the forum. Unfortunately, you're a bit off on the second portion; I've been told by KP specifically that the topic of the panel will require it to go through the AC board for review.

If B's running the panel, I'll show up Sticking out tongue I am one of those crazy gun-totin' rednecks mahself Laughing out loud But I'd be REALLY interested in drawing motion-heavy characters! All my 'action' panels or stuff look like they're just positioned really awkwardly.

Chances are if it's a panel about art, I will poke my head in at least for a little bit if only out of morbid curiosity. I'm kind of genuinely curious about how different people translate visual matter.

This panel is confirmed for this year. We should have myself, Beowulf Kennedy, and Strype up front doing the talking. Hope to see folks there.

I'll be nterested in comming along, taking a look. I've always loved drawing furs with various weaponry, although I tend to favour paintball guns hehe.
