Fursuit Parade
|
Is there any plans to change the route or length of the parade this year? Or perhaps speed it up some, or not spend as much time on the outside balcony at the con center? I'm just asking this on behalf of some of the suiters. For those who've been to Pittsburgh before, they know that it gets really really warm that time of year and I heard stories of heat exhaustion etc. I don't mean to come off as being snobby about any of this, but during the parade, if I get uncomfortably warm and feel sick, I will pop the head piece off regardless of who's around. I don't believe there are any exceptions when it comes down to our health and safety. |

Yes. One of the things we're planning to do on our next site visit is to scout out some alternate routes for the parade.
We're also planning to make the schedule much more clear in terms of when the lineup for the parade starts, and when the parade actually begins.

I can't comment on the length or route of the parade (not my department), but I can comment on this:
Absolutely. The health of our attendees is far more important than the fursuit parade as a whole. If you feel yourself becoming ill, feel free to take your head off, grab a security or staff member, or do whatever is necessary to ensure your well being. (I personally assisted one fursuiter who began to feel "under the weather" at last year's parade. Fortunately, it was nothing serious.)

I'd like to comment on this:
Standing in the sunlight was a pain. On a positive note, I am VERY thankful for all of the water bottles that were provided. That was a huge help.
The SoP Ballroom, to me at least, seems to be a more logical choice to begin the parade. It was very cool in that room, and the lights don't blind us.

The problem with the SoP Ballroom is that it adds a substantial distance to walk in the parade. So the options last year were shorten the route and have the sunlight in the starting area, or start in the ballroom and add a longer walk. Since folks had complained about the distance, we shortened the walk. But we are always looking for different routes and such....we'll keep on trying!

There was a very extensive discussion of the parade on this board shortly after last years con, with lots of good suggestions. You can see it here.
