Places to eat which also serve alcohol

Are bars in Pittsburgh 21 and older only?
Just curious... I might want a drink, without young ones or screaming 7 year olds.

Are there any nice places which serves alcoholic beverages and dinner?(kids or not)

The Original Fish Market is a 4-star restaurant right in the Westin, and they have a fine selection of alcohol. Probably won't be any screaming, although there's liable to be some howling, yapping, meowing, etc.

Nightclubs will certainly be 21 or over, but most bars won't exclude kids; they just won't serve them alcohol.

3 words about the Fish Market: Wasabi Bloody Mary

There was also a lovely steakhouse just around the corner that served mojitos.

There's also August Henry's right around the corner from the hotel (and right across from the Courtyard). The food isn't bad (bar food, really) and they have some good drink specials. Just...for all that is holy, don't even THINK about going there after 9 PM on a Friday night. We went last year hoping for a nice quiet evening to relax after a rough day and wound up being treated to one of the most horrible singing acts I've ever heard (and he kept bringing up off-key audience members to "help him out").

Right about when he launched into a terrible version of "Werewolves of London" ("Going out to all of our furry friends!") was when we decided it was time to get the heck out.

I echo Tom's comments about "August Henry's". Terrific food and terrific bar. Try the "Sweet potato pancakes" and the ribs are pretty good too.

How do furries sit on those stools? :/

Most furries would just pull out the seat and sit down.

Or if you're worried about a tail getting in the way, most well-made tails can be sat on without losing their form..

...or they (the tails) can be removed.

Or, if the tail isn't particularly stiff, it can be pulled to the side, which is what I do.

*Cracks knuckles and grins* Ah, my forte'.
If you're willing to drop a pretty penny, there's a Ruths' chris not but three blocks from the hotel(And a gorgeous walk it is!). There are several bars within a block from the hotel(And a gay bar less than a block up the main street leading away from the hotel! With great drink specials nightly). There's a sports bar that I'm fairly sure also serves food, to the right hand street(Staying straight) leading away from the hotel. Just across the bridge is a cheesecake factory with a plethora of tasty things to eat and drink, and there's an italian place not too far- but I forget the name. I'll look it up sometime if I remember :3 Which also serves alcohol. Might be a macaroni grill or something.

*gasp* I keep forgetting how there are so many places in modern cities. ^_^

ah, heh. I don't want italian food, I make plenty of good italian on my own. >:/ the problem I've with living so far away from a modern city, you cant get certain ingredients so I've to compromise. ;_; I want to use something fresh other than reindeer meat. *stabs heart* >:) Its nearing lunch time. The italian place actually sounds good, I don't think they'll serve me wearing a fursuit though. ^_^

^_^ I'll go where ever a bunch go from the con long as its a good place and serve liquor. Note: Not denny's XD

How much is "a pretty penny"? As long as it's less than $200 for two people... Laughing out loud

IIRC, "Ruth's Chris", which he mentioned, is a steak-house.
The prices should be typical for steak-houses.

" Ruth's Chris' ", which is a grammatical nightmare, is a very high end yet casual, almost family style steak house. All steaks are cooked quickly at very high temps in gobs of butter.. you can smell the butter in the air. The food is beyond excellent and plentiful. The staff is more than friendly and as said the atmosphere is casual.. a high end golf clubhouse feel.

The price also reflects this. One is lucky if one can get out without a $50 per head bill. But the times I've eaten then, I've never felt I didn't get value for money.

When our daughter was still at highchair age, we ask if we could just get a few sliced tomatoes for her. They brought us a plate of fresh sliced tomatoes, bits of fruit, a couple of flowers and a little candy teddy bear, on the house.

I think the actual name is like.. Ruth's Chris'. I know its not "Ruths chris" but "Ruths Chrises". I want to kill myself, right? Lol.

And their food is TOTALLY GOOD. The waitstaff is fantastic(probobly because even if they make out with a typically shitty tip of 10-12%, its still 50+ dollars for 2 hours worth of work), the managers are generally nice, and the cooks totally go over the top for nothing.

I am a lady, sir! Sticking out tongue lol.
That aside, its slightly more pricey than most run-of-the-mill steakhouses. Its' SUPER fancy, last year six or eight of us ran up a 650 tab(But that was steaks all around, 3 bottles of wine, a bottle of 15 year scotch and dessert for everyone :3). If you plan on drinking, count it to be about 100 a head. Its like 8 bucks for sides which feed two people, 40 bucks for a steak(Which are smallish, but delish, and don't come with sides), 2 bucks for a refillable soda, 30 bucks for a bottle of wine(Cheapish, but you can obviously buy better), and 6ish bucks for dessert. The scotch was a terrible idea that we never regretted Eye-wink Each shot was 15(15 year scotch. Nummers!). Anyways, good deal, mate! Have a grand time wherever you choose to go.

By super-fancy, do you mean it's one of those places that require a suit? Or would a polo shirt and jeans/khakis suffice?

If I have a special someone to impress by the time AC rolls around, this place sounds like it'd do the trick, thanks for the review Smiling

I'd love to wear my fur suit to eat. ^_^ j/k, I know what you mean. Actually it would be quite funny to walk in to a place like that with a fursuit.

Nah, no suits required. Its advisable to wear some nice, clean clothes though Smiling I wore some dress slacks, a tee and a silk overshirt and they didn't seem to mind. Although most of the white collar workers there(Still trying to maintain the illusion of civility in america, lol), will be dressed in suits and might shoot you some dirty looks. Best steakhouse in the world. WOOOOOOOOOORLD.

With any luck, I'll be one of those white-collar workers by then, but I ain't wearing that sort of garb on my vacation, especially not to go out to eat. "Nice, clean clothes" are obvious, though Smiling

Thanks for the clarification Laughing out loud

I donno, my opinion of steakhouses have changed greatly, ever since I found a small bar/restaurant called the Kettle and Keg. It sadly is not in Pittsburg, but has a tremendous special on saturday and sundays. Prime Rib dinner for two! Two giant pieces of Prime Rib, cooked to PERFECTION (especially if you're like me and enjoy your meat on the rare side)! You get a salad as an appetizer and a huge baked potatoe with the works! All that for 20$ for BOTH meals! I still haven't convinced them to open up a second place in Pittsburg yet though...

Tonic is right across the street from the Westin, and they have excellent food and a full bar. They are also open til midnight most nights. They're about mid-range on price scale.

Yes. You're right there. However, I'd probably end up going alone and hate to go to a place like that by myself. I might as well go to a bar. So, I was kind of hoping that wolfe or the others might take pity on me and allow me to tag along.

Actually, the establishments that are within Anthrocon's neighborhood would probably allow it, although they are certainly not going to serve alcohol to someone who cannot be fully identified.

Of course, the question is: Do you want to have to deal with the difficulties of wearing an expensive handmade fursuit while handling food and drink in a crowded restaurant?

Seeing as the fur on the front will be white, probably not. I keep imagine wearing this insanely huge bib though. XD
