So, it says 26 - 29 on the top banner of the site. But most conventions I know of are only three days long. Not really a problem for me, since I'll be in Pittsburgh for a week. So is it a 4 day con? or is Thursday just a pre-con-warm-up-day? And... My birthday! is June 26th! the First / Pre-con day! So, I'm planning on having a blast at AC, and look forward to seeing the few friends that I know will be there as well ~Ark~ |

Thursday is sort of a warm-up day, there's registration, and a mixer/social/thing. That's pretty much it, unless you're helping with setup.
To Giza: Why is this not in the FAQ?

I haven't put it in the FAQ because it seems like every year is different in terms of what goes on on Thursdays. Maybe I should though...

permalinkAnd there are usually some furs hanging around on Monday, (6/30). If you are looking for someone to do something with, (I.E. Visit the amusement park or museum, Pirates game, if they are home that day), it helps to arrange a group ahead of time if possible.

permalinkWill the amusement part allow us to wear our suits?
I'll be there monday, and will probably take a flight back on July the 2nd. I've some business and personal stuff to take care of while in Pittsburgh after the con.

permalinkIf you are allowed to wear your fursuit into an airport terminal, through security and onto the aircraft, it's be hard to imagine an amusement park stopping you.
However, most parks will not permit this. A) They have their own licensed characters and/or promotional characters under contract. B) The usual safety and security concerns.
Ask first. See: http://www.anthrocon.org/node/2140 for the links.

permalinkI called a few places just now.
Kennywood doesn't allow costumes in the park.
Carnegie Museum doesn't mind long as you're not wearing a backpack
Carnegie Science Center said they didn't have a rule on that, and it should be okay
*note: the warhol doesn't look very fascinating, so I didn't call them
*note: Fort Pitt hours of operation doesn't coincide with my free time, so I didn't call them
*note: not a person who likes to look at others art, I didn't call the concept art gallery

permalinkAs we keep trying to tell people, you CANNOT wear any form of face concealing costume into the terminal at the airport. You will be stopped by the airport police, you will be taken to the back for questioning.
Amusement parks, from Disney to Cedar Point to Kennywood all have stated policy that will not allow people in costumes of any sort onto their property.
Almost most shopping malls will not allow people in costume in.
And before anyone screams that they have a right, no, you don't. Technically, most major cities have laws in place allowing the police to stop and question anyone who is willfully concealing their faces in public. They may choose not to enforce it, as in the winter when you have a scarf on, or if you're obviously doing it for religious purposes, but they can easily choose to if you're looking suspicious.
Back in the day, many a fan heading out onto the streets of Chicago from a con in search of food have been stopped and questioned for "dressing funny" in public. I have had it happen to me.

permalinkPittsburgh Airport staff, police, and TSA all said wearing a fursuit with facial concealment was fine long as the head is taken off to verify at the TSA checkpoint. They don't mind at all long as you're not causing a trouble. yes, I called each department, and spoke to 1) a sergeant or another respected officer who could give me an official answer.
Far as wearing the head on the plane, completely up to the airline you're taking, and the staff which are the hosts of the plane.
I think they'd have told me no if I wanted to wear a ski mask, if you catch my drift... or any "scary" "mascot" suit. They didn't know what a fursuit was, so I improvised. "A fursuit is a mascot suit, except it doesn't look so stupid, looks much more detailed, is usually smaller in size"
Though, I don't recommend just showing up blindly. Many will remember because I called them during their shift in which I'll show up.
