Hi kids!

This is a follow-up to our earlier announcement regarding the room sellout; it did in fact fill nearly to the breaking point--quite a few rounds of human Tetris were played, but we got everyone in without having to reduce many to less than what they were after.

We have sent out applications to all dealers who provided a valid, functioning email address. While we do our best to get all of them to work, some inevitably did bounce, and we were unable to communicate with those dealers. If you have not received a notification of assignment from the Dealer's Room Staff, please notify us straightaway via email, even if you're sure you've already been assigned--there are often issues we need to communicate, and not having an email address hinders the process.

Secondly and much much more importantly: if you have not yet, for whatever reason, given us your Pennsylvania State Tax ID Number, get off your butt and do it NOW. I hate to be blunt, but as the room is nearly too full to allow enough oxygen in, we must begin releasing unconfirmed tables back into the pool for those dealers who apply between now and the last day of the convention. Long story short, if we do not have a tax ID right at this very moment, you are down to a number of days before we must release your table.

A notice will be going out to those specific dealers (there are 17 at this exact moment in time) to nudge them along; this will be the only notice until the table is released--we don't have the time or resources to chase dealers down for this ID number. If you have applied but not heard back, get on the phone right away to the proper departments. If you have not applied, do so NOW via the online forms.

If you are not sure you have provided an ID, ask and we'll happy to check for you. If you emailed it over and still get told you didn't, email it again and we'll fix it straight away.

I have a question. I have only one thing to sell and that is my published book. I have a PA sellers license as prescribed but don't know if a table is the right thing. I'm confuzzled as to what I should do. Am I able to sell it from my room? the thing I lack ATM is funds until I get my SSDI check in may.

If I am able to do it from my room how would I be able to advertise?

From the FAQ:
Can I just sell things out of my room?

Merchandise can only be sold in designated areas. Both hotel policy and local tax regulations prevent sales from hotel guest rooms or in common areas of the hotel or convention center.

If you are unable to purchase a Dealer's Room table, then you may want to check if the Artists' Alley would let you sell your book there. You'll need to check with them at alley-2008(AT)anthrocon.org

As already stated, no, you can't do this.

The Artist's Alley would be more than happy to provide space though, I'm sure, and there is always the high potential of Dealer's space opening up. We do continue to provide tables on a first-come-first-serve limited availability basis until the event as cancellations allow. It is, however, not remotely a guaranteed service.

well I just found out I won't even be able to order any books for Ac so I guess the point is now moot. hopefully I can at least try to get a book signing set up. It's not like my book isn't sold world wide as is. I just wanted to try and get a little more notice. Especially with my working on 4-5 more books in the series.

Why won't you be able to order any books for AC? :/ Can't you use a self publishing service(lulu.com) or are the books not finished yet? Smiling

I think your only option is to find a dealer that is willing to sell your item(s) for a piece of the action. Try to find one that has similar products to your item and talk to them I guess. Most dealers won't balk at making a few more bucks.

If they let people sell stuff from rooms etc... it would be a mess trying to keep it legal and such, not to mention unfair to the merchants that have payed for space to sell.

The City of Pittsburgh, like most big cities has a law on the books making it illegal to conduct sales business from a hotel room is an attempt to curb drug dealing.

Because someone who's dealing drugs is going to let a law like that stop them o.O

But if the cops raid a room, looking for drug dealers, but they ditch the product, but appear of be doing commerce from the room, they can be arrested.

There are other illicit business that they don't want being run out of hotel rooms.

I didn't say I liked it, but there it is.

I'm gonna be the first to admit it.

I'm assuming either my contact info bounced or my original ap was lost as I haven't heard anything. Sad Is there any chance of my getting space at this point if I send my application today? Has a wait list even been started? Thanks! Smiling

Well, if need be, I could offer you a spot at my table as 'assisstant'. There's still time for me to add a person if I need to.

As a plus, you'd get to see a great deal of the United Paws Animations mascot: a giant Hansa plush lion. And I can brainwash you into joining my animation team. Muwah ha ha. *begins mixing the mind-control potion!* >:3

I would strongly advise you to read over the Dealers Room rules on assistants and sharing tables. Anyone you add as an assistant would be required to sell your products under your tax license. They may not sell their products under your tax license, nor their own products under their own tax license - for that, they need their own table.

Oh yes yes. I remember that now. I've been up all night in the lab. The brain is a bit numb. Sticking out tongue

My offer probably filled her with hope, hope of a place in the Dealer's Room with the happy peoples... only to have it dashed to pieces due to my sleep-deprivation-induced memory loss!

I have failed! I phail... at life... .org. :C

It's ok. I appreciate the offer though. Smiling Worse comes to worse, I'll be plopping my stuff down in the artist's alley. It'd just be nice to not have to worry about set-up & tear down every day.

Yes and Yes, but you have a much better chance of getting the answers if you contact the dealers room staff directly at dealers-2008(at)anthrocon.org.

I simply must stop this two-cons-at-once malarkey. It's simply digital masochism!

I cannot find any emails from you in my archives, but I'm at work so I'm without access to a large majority of mailings I've received. I recall seeing an inquiry from you some weeks ago, but I would swear upon a small stack of $religious_texts that I responded. Oh well.

I've followed up with ye via email already, and I'll keep me eyes open.

HI,

I sent my application in in mid march but I have not recieved any info about it and now I see the posts that the con is full.
Can you please tell me my status, am I in, or am I somewhere on a waiting list.

My colleagues and I are Pittsburgh artists and we would hate to not have a table.

I appreciate any info you can provide.
