Anthrocon is pushing forward into the future with an exciting new programming track in 2007. I’m pleased to announce that the one and only Potoroo is our track lead for Anthrocon’s new Music Track. And the signature event of the new music track is under development at this time: the Anthrocon Music Festival! Potoroo and I are currently discussing the format and logistics of this event. If you’d like to be considered as a performer, you’ll need to do a couple of things. First, contact Potoroo at for information on submitting a music example. This is designed as an opportunity for musicians to perform vocal and acoustical musical numbers (no amped instruments please) for our attendees. We are tentatively looking at a maximum performance time of around 20 minutes per performer/group for the festival. We are also looking at slating a filking event to build on last year’s interest. If you have additional questions about the new music track, please feel free to contact me at and copy Potoroo at the e-mail address above. We hope that our attendees will enjoy this wonderful new addition to our programming lineup. Keep an eye out for more news about Anthrocon programming! KP |

Hiya! I have to say, this comes as a very pleasant surprise as I have been sorta hoping for something like this.
I must ask, will song covers be allowed? Me and my friends plan on doing some a cappella things, but a good amount of them are songs by other artists.
Thank you!

permalinkWell, may I suggest you contact a certain musician?
Danny Adler (a.k.a. SuperGreenX) He excells in electronic music, and some of his tracks would even be good for the AnthroCon Dance. He is very talented, and he could use the publicity of having his music in AC or the AC soundtrack. I think he would deserve the honor.

permalinkNo amped instruments? Why is that?

I can think of two reasons they might make that rule:
1. They may not be able to afford the amps and/or additional electricity. AC has only so much money, after all, and as a new budget item that doesn't generate revenue, this music track doesn't have as much backing it as, say, the art show.
2. AC has only so many spaces available to it, even in it's new big convention center, and a lot of the program spaces are cheek-by-jowl with each other. That means they have to be very careful not to put something really noisy next to something that requires quiet. Amped instruments (much as i love them) are often so loud, you'd really need a space away from everything else to give them the sonic breathing space they need. Most acoustic instruments are a mite more obliging, and don't require our programming gurus to guess how high an amp could reasonably be turned up. *wrygrin*
Of course i'm sure there are other equally legitimate reasons on the programming folks' minds. They just haven't occurred to me personally. *grin*
