We have literally scores of attendees from Canada, so many in fact that all of our programming is conducted in both English and Canadian for their benefit.
It never ceases to amaze me how Uncle Kage manages to find wit enough before 8am to not only find his shoes, keys, AND breakfast cereal in the morning before blearily stumbling out in the direction of work, but can also manage to make hilarious posts like this.
I think it took me about 5 minutes of 'Wait, english AND Canadian? before this one finally clicked. Blargh, morning.
Then again, it may just mean he's saving the REALLY GOOD spirits for the month of the con. Hmm.
I tend to make it easier to the Americans by speaking their language when I'm visiting the US, I'll speak in imperial units, and greet them with "how ya'll doin'?" Just so it don't hurt their brain
LOL, just remember that "y'all" is plural, not singular. It's a common mistake when Yankees try to talk Southern Smiling
*nodnods*
It's like the philly/new york 'youse'--very useful word.
Also, it's important to get the proper use of the term 'all y'all'--it's generally either a collective plural ("OK, y'all go there, y'all go over there, and all y'all meet back here in an hour") or, in certain circumstances, as an emphatic plural (used in much the same way you might use the phrase 'all of you').
Thankfully, most AC attenders are fluent in midwest american as well as southern, so we shouldn't need a translater. If you want to make our southern attendees feel extra welcome, tho, you could always learn this classic turn of east southern conversation as a way to welcome a fur to the dinner table:
they believe that they have the right to indepences as there own country but how canada started was in quebec so now they want to sepreate. THAT NOT HAPPENING XD

How about we agree that with the very next jab at Quebec, or any other Canadian province for that matter, or with any further discussion of Canadian politics that do not relate to Anthrocon, this thread goes away.

i think unklekage and mapdark are right. i'm sorry i never meant for this to happen, all i realy want is to make new friends, i never meant for anyone to get upset or hurt. it's just sometimes i dont realy relise whats being sed till someone points it out but by then it's to late. i can be a bit of an idiot sometimes i just work to hard then get to tired then start to screw things up i hope everyone can forgive me. and perhaps this thread should disapear befor any more harm can be done...

I'd say no. I've only been able to meet up with 2 other furries in the city ever.
I'm currently a student at Dawson, and live in the west-island, so you'd like, there'd a decent chance we could meet up without worrying too much about my time restrictions.

Err.. not quite
Law 101 is basically there to protect french as an official language..
But it has to do with services and signs being in french .
So basically , a store CANNOT refuse to serve you in french.
They can serve you in english .. but if your primary language is french
and you want to be served in french , the people in the store are OBLIGATED by LAW to serve you in french.
Also signs must be in french primarly and can contain english but it must be AFTER the french.
This also applies to government services and city services..
I realise it may sound weird .. but Quebec being the only place left in north america where french is the primarly language .. there needs to be rules to protect it..
Sadly I think i'm one of those Canadians that does not speak french. Though from grades four to six in Elementary it is mandatory for the shools to teach it. Only thing that stuck with me was 'Snoop Chien Chien' from our 'turn something English into French" Assignment LOL
