hehe, well I'm going to obtain a sewing machine and make my own collars. There are some really nice materials which I see the local boat refurnisher use for other things like their own made backpacks, and other hiking gear. It is really interesting how many patterns are out there.
After that, I won't have to wear a collar which has branding on it!

I love my collar. It's black with a red lambskin lining, and it has my name in silver on it. I sadly don't get to wear it much anymore. Army kinda frowns on such things lol

ah, nice. I tried to look for a collar like that, but couldn't find one which would shrink to 16" and look nice. Sounds like it would be good in the winter. The collar I posted even makes me a bit warmer, though well... lambskin.
Must feel great on the neck.

Yeah, I love lambskin linings. I've worn leather linings... very rough on the neck. Faux fur is nice, but it can get matted down. The lambskin is just soft enough. You've no doubt looked at collarfactory.com by now right? If you haven't I'd strongly suggest it, they make amazing custom collars.

I have a black one I wish I could wear more. My landlord disapproves.

o.o What does your landlord disapproving have to with not wearing it?

Because I have to respect her wishes. If I don't she can throw me out.
BTW, ever made collars for fun in the Collar Factory?

permalink*scratches head* Your landlord doesn't like you to wear a collar? In all honesty, that is an asinine thing of her to rule over. Last I checked, a collar isn't something that should cause alarm. I mean, she's not your mother, she shouldn't be able to control certain aspects of your life like that.
Now, if you were walking around with a butt-load of weapons strewn across your body, then yes, I can understand.
But, just a simple collar?

I guess it depends on how you define collars.
I don't generally wear the style of collar one would normally find on a dog; with the deepest of respect, it's not really my style or my species. However, i do often design and wear beaded chokers, which are collars of a sort, i suppose.
Mostly stuff like this.

Wow! It looks very beautiful.
Well...
Even when I was growing up, wearing metal chains was weird to me and it is still weird to me. There is no functional point in wearing a chain unless it is going to hold tags. I still need to find better s-loops, but I'll eventually attach my dogs to my collars. I just want to find something I can easily take the tags off one collar and place them on another.
I don't really see collars specifically for dogs, I see them for use with any animal. I see collars in a completely functional use of course, some do it for looks, but I perfer a collar be able to perform some type of purpose. Whether it be to shock, track, beep, hold things, pulling, etc. So therefore its not a dog collar, its an animal collar. ^_^

Yeah, i don't really think of collars as being specifically a dog thing, either. Heck, years ago i had a friend who bent herself a collar made of barbed wire in high school (with all of the barbs facing out, of course), and that wasn't a dog thing, or even an animal thing; she just went to school with a guy who could get a little too close for her comfort, and she wanted him to back off.
Calling them dog collars is just an easy descriptor for a specific sort of aesthetic--leather flat band with buckle or interlocking choke chain, for instance, as opposed to all of the other sorts of neckpieces designed to sit flush against the neck.

Oh, baby, do i ever.
I belong to a local fiber arts circle that has started doing periodic sales of our work, and i'm hoping to start taking some of my work for sale on consignment to another gather i frequent. I'd put beadwork in the AC art show, but little or none of it has been animal-themed (so far).
However, did i mention i also do commissioned work?

I doubt you'd see a dip in sales for lack of "animal-type" themes. Especially if there's other folks out there like me, and you can also emphasize you do commission--I bet you'll get a good amount of orders

I've rather felt the same--sparklies are a pretty common source of interest (mmmm...sparklies...)
My sense, however, has been that if it isn't against the rules to bring a body of artwork that's not even remotely furry themed for formal display, then it is probably inappropriate.
That said, anyone looking to see my work in a strictly informal, haul-it-out-of-my-bag-and-dump-it-in-your-lap, not-making-sales-at-AC sort of sense is always welcome to come tap me on the shoulder; i think of this as akin to showing my sketchbook, and i'm often to be found helping out at the art show. Now that i know there might be someone interested in looking at my work, i'm much more likely to carry it with me, instead of just carrying whatever project i'm currently working on.
Also, i would be happy to exchange contact information with anyone wanting to buy my work or set up a commission, to be sent and paid for before or after AC, so long as it's done in a way that honors AC's policies about sales outside of official AC channels (which are, to the best of my knowledge, that they don't happen at AC).
I guess all of that is a long way of saying that my beadwork still won't be hanging in the art show this year, but that doesn't mean you couldn't get your claws on some of it.

I like wearing a collar, but office/net work doesn't suit it
So my collar waits until con times or furry gatherings - and its a thick hand-made leather collar with steel pikes clip-close and multi-coloured LED's - which some of you may have seen me in
its backed by cloth, and powered by 2 watch batteries.
(Little known fact: wolves love LED's)

Now I wear a tie.

I used to love wearing ties, until someone showed me how easily they could be used as a weapon against me.
I had a nice selection of ties, even some very queer(peculiar) ties.

Hmm, I've never really had that problem.
(BTW, I see that's a Powerbook in your picture. Good choice. It is also a little known fact that our Chairman loves Macs.)

Don't even go into fanboy-ness. You're liable to get your ear, muzzle, and other parts bitten off in the process.

I wear one when not at work--I'm a custodian, so I don't want to wear a collar where I could get it snagged on something dangerous.
Mine was given to my by a good friend, black faux leather with like a gajillion little rings around it
I like it
But it IS a little big on me...I need to get one that's smaller and fits better to my neck, without being that nylon stuff that scratches my neck where they melt it to prevent fraying...

I have three. One's a Black Leather Spiked Collar. One's an multicolored Dog Collar. And One's a furry Spiked Collar. THe Latter given to me by a friend, and the first two given to me by my girlfriend. Sadly I can't wear them in school. XP

One of my coworkers today actually seen my collar for the first time, confronted me, then started a conversation.
I think the funniest line was something like, "It's like something you should keep in the bedroom" *chuckle*
She still doesn't know I'm a furry, its going to be a great reaction from her when I walk around in the halls with my fursuit. Some of the other office staff already know I'm a furry and have seen me create a duct tape dummy in the board room. The others who know have also seen the massive amounts of packaged faux fur come in for me.

I go to a school in West Vriginia. Oak Glen High in New Cumberland. Back when my girlfriend and her brother were in school, they were allowed but sadly some idiot tried to pin one to a teacher and got them banned.

Hmmm. I just pondered this: a lady can wear a thin chain around her neck with a small charm on it and nobody will look twice. But if she wears a very thick chain, people will call it a collar and will look askance.
At what point does a chain become a collar?

Thought about the question for a while, I never really understood myself.
Personally I don't care what people think long as I'm nice to people. I can act or dress anyway I want and people still come to me for services. I wear whatever I want, and I'm nice to people. I probably can wear what ever I want because I'm nice to people.
*sigh* I think I'll post another topic on the latest sentence I just mentioned. Something a client told me I'd really like to share with everyone.

Seriously! Sometimes I have my lightsaber strapped to my belt. Sometimes I'm wearing a little girly pink shirt with a pink collar. I have kids all the time around town say stuff. I know how to deal with it, it's not hard. And it's like a high being able to do what you want without caring what people think, ya know?

Well I don't know, everywhere I go people always tell them I make them smile.
Though they say that even when I don't wear items they might find offensive or weird.
Just today the cashier told me I was her polite customer, when I took my receipt she commented I made her smile.
*was wearing collar*

You wear a collar down here and your gonna get the strangest of looks. No joke. Me and my mate are considering getting one (dunno what style... yet) but we'll mostly use it in a private setting while we "RP" and/or take turns being "pets" if you know what I mean hehe. If were lucky, we may even wear em to AC.

Well you know how us Texas can be. Were nothing but cowboy wearin, spit talking, country listen', raciest skinhead, Bush lovin idiots who didn't learn anything from school except just try to conquer the country... oh yeah we were taught that Caesar was a salad dressing dude and Joan Of Arc was Noahs wife.
Anyway even if I wanted to wear a collar in public, The restaurant I work at wouldn't allow it anyway.
